A/C problem

Okay here's my problem. I picked up a 93 5.0 a couple of weeks ago that the previous owner had pulled all the A/C hardlines and compressor off of. He had it all in the trunk and I decided to put it back on and convert to R134a. He thought the compressor was bad(whole reason he pulled it off) but when I spun it by hand it pulled a suction and pumped air. I put it on the car and started her up. The compressor was pretty noisy but would compress with the hardlines removed. I hooked the lines up and went to start her up. She smoked the belt on the A/C. I don't know if that means there's something wrong with the compressor or if there is something wrong with the expansion valve/orifice(not sure which the stang has). I didn't have power hooked up to the compressor at anytime so it shouldn't have had to spin at all. If anyone has an idea let me know.

Whether the clutch on the compressor is good or not, if the compressor seized then it's done, caput, FUBAR. Even if the clutch was seized the belt should not have smoked unless the compressor is also bad.

If the compressor seized, it put metal in the refrigerant system. You will need to flush all the lines & replace the orfice valve.

Maybe PuterAmI will give some help on locating the orfice valve. It seems to move around from place to place depending on the model year. Kind of like the turn signal flasher in that respect - no one can ever seem to find it.

Yeah, I remember the discussion.

On the hundreds of aero 5.0 Mustangs I have helped with, I personally have not seen it anywhere else except in the liquid line.
This is the line that goes from the condenser to the evaporator.
