Bought an 04 Mach 1 this weekend with 1,700 miles on it. A/C worked when we looked at it (I think, but as it was fairly cold out, I'm not 100% sure), but now will blow only warm air.

When the A/C switch is turned to on, the clutch kicks in, but then it kicks right back out. This on, then off, cycle repeats every 10 seconds or so, like the A/C is trying to kick in but it never stays engaged.

I poped the hood on my 94 GT, and when the A/C swith is on, the clutch/compressor engages and stays engaged.

Any ideas what could be wrong with the 04?
Is there a fuse or a cycling switch I can check out before taking to the dealer?
The car is under warranty, but just wondering what it could be
thanks,
mitch

Its cycling on and off probably due to a low freon level.

Warranty issue. Take it to any ford dealer they have to fix it.

+1.. short cyling is a sign of the system having a low charge. Do not let them tell you it just needed to be recharged, any time the freeon level is low there is a leak.

I had the same problem w/ my 03 Mach. Turned out to be the front seal on the compressor. The dealer can find the leak by using a dye they put in the system. Good luck.

I have seen a lot of compressor front seals go in the last few years.
