Hi,
Have a 5 speed with 3.73 gears. Thinking of going to 4.10's here is the reasoning.

At the track last week I ran my best time a 13.64 with a 1.91 60 at 101.48. Went through the trap in 3rd gear at about 6200 rpm. The best I can do going thru the traps in 4th gear is a 13.8 with rpm about 4600 at the end of the quarter mile. I have 27.9" diameter X 15 " BFG DR's on the rear, the tall tires I believe are causing this. Will I dramatically change my track times if I go with 4.10's ?? They would change my trap speed for the better allowing a shift to 4th sooner ??

I am also thinking of a custom cam this winter but gears would be easier/quicker fix for now?? Opinions??

I'd try and get rid of those tires first. They are basically cutting down your gear ratio, and you're in the neighborhood of a 3.47 gear. Most cam guys will give you a really weak cam because those tires cut the gear ratio down so much. You don't need a 4.10 gear, a 3.73 is fine, as long as the tires are small (i.e 26-inches).

Then, move to another cam.

Like I said, you don't need the gears, you need to get rid of those tires. Since tires are probably much cheaper than a gear swap, I'd score up some new tires.

What BFG's do you have? I know the 275/50/15's are only like 26.1" or something like that.

If I remember correctly is there only like a 200/300 rpm difference between the 3.73 & 4.10's(I THINK). If I'm right then it's not really worth the $$ for just a small difference.

Hi,
I got 325/50/15 BFG DR's on 10" Pro star rims, really like the waythey look/ fill the wheel wells on the stang. 27.9 Diameter. Wish they made a DR in 315 or even 295/50/15 but can't find any. (Edit: They do make a 315/60/15 but that is 2 in. more diameter)
So I am still thinking gears ??
