A different kind of Granada conversion ?

Everyone knows about the spindle/disc conversion. I took a pair of great spindle and discs of a 79 granada this weekend, and I noticed the p/s rack was in excellent shape. has anyone also converted the Granada P/S setup over to an early manual steering mustang? Can this be, or has it been, done? Let me know. [email protected]

Somewhat similar to whet I did in Chepie with a taurus rack, as I used the "FOX" Granada inner ends.

One important note: Front ot rear steer? The Classic Mustangs are rear steer, and the Fox chassis are all front steer. Incompatible, unless you want to do a MAJOR job. That's wht I used a Taurus rack. Similar weight, and rear steer,

I'm confused, when you say rack do you mean that a 79 granada has rack anid pinion steering? I thought they had a setup similar to old stangs, where they used a hyd. ram and control valve. If it has a true rack and pinion, that should mean it's technically a fox body, which means the brakes won't work on an early mustang.

hey dan, wasn't 80 or 81 the first year for the fox body granadas?

natejones75, if 79 WAS the first year for the fox body granada, the parts you just bought work, i'm assuming by rack you meant the power ram and control valve assembly, if that is the case then yes, they will work on 67-70 stangs but not 65-66. if you are going to do that as well, try to get the steering gear box as well, since it has the better 16:1 ratio, but check it closely because i am not 100% sure the box will work, only about 90% sure

My bad, here is some more detail....

It is a 79 Granada and it IS a hydraulic/ ram power steering set-up. With that established now, sinc eI am using the same car's disc brake set-up on my 65 mustang, can the power steering be converted too?

What year is your car? Like I, and others said earlier, if your car is 67-70 then the steering can be used rather easily but it will not fit a 65-66 vehicle.
