A/F meter says lean.............

hey guys, I am running at 30 psi with vacum off, is that lean? I know stock is 38. I dont have knocking or pining. Under normal driving the meter is doing its little dance, which i have heard is normal. Under deceleration the meter goes all the way lean and looks like it turn off. during WOT the meter gets to about the second or third bar on the rich bar.

I am honestly nervous about dropping the psi any lower. any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

James, why are you running less than stock pressure?
also, i know you like your new a/f gauge, but unless it is a wideband, i would not tune with it. they are not accurate enough to use for fine tuning (if they were, dynos would be a lot less busy).

Hissin's right - set your pressure to 38-40 with the vacuum off, let the vacuum take it to where ever it takes it (usually around 30-32 with 18 in. of vacuum at idle), and drive on. That gauge makes a nice light show, but that's about it. The computer will take the car to very lean conditions when loads on the engine are light, that's normal -- most daily driving is in those situations. If the car's running right and you're not having significant detonation all's well.

I agree. Unless you have a custom chip burned for other than stock pressure, run the stock pressure. I have the Autometer A/F gauge too, and when not under a load it's says I'm running lean too. I hate the way the dang bounces all over. I just wired mine with a switch for left and right bank O2 sensors, that way I'll know if one goes bad, but that's about all the attention I give it anymore.

Thanks guys. I set it back to 38. I also did what thompson did, and used a switch for each sensor.
