a few engine bay pics

my neighbor gave me a set of fox valve covers which i think look a hell of a lot better than the stock ones from our cars. finally got the chance to clean them up, paint them and put them on. my car is daily driven so the rest of the engine bay isnt very clean but the valve covers make it look a little better.

its a 1970 sidewinder 15 foot and its got a 78 140 horse johnson thats had been mildly built.

Those valve covers certainly do look much better than our stock ones.

I daily drive my car as well, but I recently started making an effort to keep the underhood clean. I just got a bottle of Castrol SuperClean degreaser, spray it on, let it soak for a few minutes, use a plastic bristle brush on the tough spots, and rinse with water. Start the engine and let it idle for about 10-15 minutes to dry the water, then let it cool off. I used an engine detail spray I found at the parts store, made everything look nice and shiny and new. Only took a few minutes to do. Here's the before and after shots:

I ordered a steam cleaner. That should work pretty good under the hood and in the fender wells.

putting the valve covers on the car made me realize why ford didnt put them on our cars to begin with. the oil fill tube is back farther than on our cars and its actually hitting my cai. it made putting the upper manifold back on hell cause the little tube was hitting the iac motor.

damn!! that superclean made a huge difference. thats my next project to clean the engine bay. nice job on that.

Hmm... since u cant see the pass side one anyway..I might suggest leaving the sn95 one on that side and show off the fox one on ths dr side!

Whenver i wash my car I pop the hood and give everythign a good spray then a couple times a year i degrease it... jsut keep them up and makes it much nicer when you have to work on them...

WOW, Thats a clean engine bay. Looks super nice.

Since there is a good engine bay pic here, let me ask all a question.
On the before picture you can get a good look at the dizzy and the coil.
My question is what is the small cylinder object on the back side of the coil?

Yea, its supposed to help with coil noise through the radio.

Best bet would be to go to autozone and look in the engine degreaser section. We have sort of the canadian version of AZ up here in called Canadian Tire (a.k.a. Crappy Tire) and they have their own brand of stuff called Motomaster Engine Finish. It kind of goes-on like a clear-coat (its in a rattle can) but its made specially for high-temperature metal/plastic/rubber. I just try to avoid the accessory drive belt when I put it on.

What did you do on the passenger side by the altenator?? did it clear evrything???

to get the valve cover off and put the new one on, i took the belt off, loosened the lower bolt a few turns and took the top bolt out so i could swing the alternator towards me and it gave me enough room to get the valve cover out. worked like a champ.

lmao. about 2 years ago my smog pump went out. i searched on how to run a short belt and found a diagram that had the short belt routing and the belt size wouldnt fit using the pulley. i ended up getting a smog pump eliminator and run the stock belt again. recently the bearing in the eliminator went south so i put my old short belt back on so i could drive the car. fixed the pump eliminator and just havent put my old belt back on. now im bypassing the compressor, cause my a/c doesnt work well enough to even use it. i need to fix it cause the window is not good enough
