A few questions about a CAI & tune...

I'm thinking about getting a CAI & tune for the 'Stang. I've avoided it in the past because I was nervous about it voiding my warranty but I've heard the custom tune can be easily removed and the chip set back to stock. So I have a few questions about them:

1. I'm thinking about getting the JLT2 intake & XCAL 2 from brenspeed. Is this a good combo? Is there another combo you guys would suggest?
2. Fuel economy. I've heard that not only do people get a significant boost in power but the fuel economy becomes better as well. Is this true? If so it'd help me rationalize the price more.
3. Warranty. Will any tuner be able to restore the chip back to stock so it's not detectable or is that only some units?

My JLT Intake and SCT Tuner from Brenspeed was great! I was also worried about warranty issues but got it anyway and my dealer hasn't said anything about it. As for fuel-economy, I'd say it gave me 1-2mpg better then stock. But the increase in horsepower, throttle response, and overall fun is priceless!

i've been looking to, i was actually leaning toward the c@L just thinking that more expensive is better and it was only $100 more. However if that isn't the case i'll gladly shove the cool 100 in my pocket for something else.

Another thing i noticed is brenspeed still bundles the xcal2 and there is a xcal3 out. It looks cooler, other then that would there be any benefit holding out for an xcal3?

A lot of people like the JLT, I have the C&L and it's great. I will say that there are better heatshieids out there for the JLT than there are for the C&L. The C&L shield works, it's just not overly attractive.

With my WMS CAI/tuner package from Brenspeed, not only did I get tire spinning/chirping power out of my automatic, I also have the same if not slightly better MPG even with the 4.10s over stock! I can usually avg 20-22 MPG with mixed "spirited" driving.

I got a tune first and then a CAI and new tune later. I got a small boost in performance from both, nothing too significant or awe inspiring though. And after I got the CAI my fuel efficiency dropped about 10%, so I get 20-30 miles less per tank of gas. Overall I've been pretty disappointed with both. And with the car not being nearly as responsive as I would like, and the tune not fixing that, I'll probably trade it in for a Camaro next year sometime.

Has anyone heard of someone who's gotten a CAI & tune during their warranty period having problems with a dealer doing warranty work because of the CAI & tune?

I asked for the X-Cal 3 from Brenspeed and they sent it to me.

I took my C&L off after about a 1/2 hour because I couldn't stand that the shield had to be ty-rapped to the ABS line. To me was rigged looking. I bought a factory 08 Bullitt intake. If I didn't use that intake I would of bought the Steeda intake.

Well, despite what most people think about being able to "Flash your car back to stock" you can put the file back to stock but the electronic trail is left in your ECM.

At a aftermarket conference we learned that Ford and GM are now requesting dealers to pull the ECM history when there is ANY hard parts failure in their motors. This gives them a snapshot of all Operating System IDs that were loaded into the ECM at any time. This obviously means that they could see how many times you flashed it etc.

Now, obviously they normally don't look, but they will when you go in with a serious engine problem and need high $ replacement.
