A Question on V6 Price

Hello...

I have a question that I was hoping to get some clarification on.
To give some history. I have a 2001 Altima and my buy out on this
Altima is 9700. I am trying to trade it in on a new V6. I have loan in
hand and I am basically just looking for a deal where I can end up
when all said and done .. financing no more then 23k.

With a decent trade for my car I should be able to achieve
this goal if I was able to get the V6 for at least MSRP. But I can't
because every dealer in my area is trying to get 25 or 26k for these
cars.

Am I missing something here? If not where can I go to get one or how
do I get one for no more than list because this is not happening for me
at least not in my area. I have actually gone back and forth with more then
one dealer in my area and they all have the same story. The car is in
demand and you can try but you will not get one for less then 3k over MSRP.
for a V6?

thanks in advance for any input.

Unfortunately, with being able to negotiate a price on a car, the final price can go up or can go down depending a lot of different things. However, I still think this is far, far better than the fixed price lines like Saturn.

You don't mention where in NY you are located. So, it will be difficult for anyone to suggest where you can go for a better deal. Are there any large Ford dealers anywhere around you? Ones that deal in higher volumes?

I would avoid NY... Go to a neighboring state (NJ or PA) would be better... The tax is 2% higher in NY then in NJ...
Dealers around me are selling V6 Stang's for around msrp! You need to see what your trade appraisal is worth... You maybe upside down on your trade which would drive you up in price too!!

Go on the Fords website and checkout all the ford dealers in your area,I am sure you will find something under invoice.new Jersey and PA have many that they are selling for under invoice.Saw one dealer with 10 V6s Convets and they are still on his lot.Hope he will be stuck with them.Johnny

Under MSRP yes
Under INVOICE no f-ing way

No dealer is going to take a loss on a new model mustang!!

I just want to make sure I am understanding this right .. please let me know if I am wrong because I could be mistaken.

Lets say the dealer wants 26000 for a car..
They are giving you 7000 for your trade in
so thats 21000 ..

But your in the hole for 2700 because the buy out on your
present car is 9700...

2700 plus 21000 = the actual amount you finance will be 23700 plus tax and titles correct?

Bear with me because I am new to this .. but reason I ask is because I had a dealer sign the agreement with me for similar numbers but is refusing to release the car to me for 23k should I be talking to a lawyer? or is it not worth the time?

The formula would be

26000
-7000 for your trade

= 19000 x sales tax (you dont get taxed for the whole amount with a trade) get this number then you add 9700 for the trade + mv + destination

Thats your out the door number!!

Sorry I should have mentioned .. I am in hudson valley at the moment.

Oh. :D

I know that the dealers around Poughkeepsie were always high. I use to drive down to Newburgh for much, much better deals.

Come to think of it. Is Pleasant Valley Ford still around? They use to be reasonable.

bah my math was a little sketchy up there .. he he..

yea I see that you mean .. its basically the same as just saying..

26000 + 2700 = 28700 plus tax and titles ..

but it's just a longer way of comming that conclusion...

No, you only pay tax on the price of the new car minus the trade in value
(26000-7000 = 19000 + (tax on 19000)) Then you add back the payoff amount + title and license, without tax. .........I think that is how it works.

The more your trade in is worth, the less taxes you pay.

In Kentucky you pay tax on the full price of a new car, not the difference on a trade. I don't know about other states but that's a fact in Kentucky. It sucks but that's the way it is.

You guys have really been helpful ...

All this talk about the X plan made me realize somthing ...

I am an IBM contractor and they are a ford friends partner..

I would qualify for that duh !

If I do however .. are they going to try and lowball me on my trade in?

If so .. would the fact that I have it in writing from at least one other Ford dealer that they were offering me 7000 help me to shoot that down if they try?
