Good find 05xgt.
The GT also has 31 spline axles since '05

IMHO 4:10's are a waste of money. had them in my car for 2 days, and lost about 3 mph at the track.

booo on them.

got the 3:31's kickin 12's now

My mechanic here in Houston specializes in Mustangs and strongly suggested that I get the FRPP gears. He said the other brands can be a pain to line up and can take a couple of hours extra to do the job right. He also said that they whine more than FRPP, even when set up properly. If you're paying roughly 70 $/hr for labor, it'll only take 1.5 extra hrs during the installation to eat up that $100 savings. Plus, you've got a higher chance of having them whine. It's just not worth the hassle, if you ask me. I've gotten FRPP gears both times I've done a swap and I've had NO problems. Hope this helps. Oh, one more thing -- are the S-197 rear ends still 8.8? I'm about to order some 4.10s with this Summit gift certificate I got for Christmas.

I just got my used 4.10's put in by a buddy under warrenty . No whine, no noise, but I had to reflash the computer an it took about 40 miles to finally learn it. It didnt want to idle and kept dying in traffic

I really didnt notice a HUGE difference between the 3.55's and 4.10's

Thats because your like me! Bad butt dyno. I cant feel less than 0.5 seconds.

To much time in fast cars (read 1/4 quicker than my S197's 1/8).

Well today I had a well respected guy install my Ford Racing gears 4.10s. well about 15 minutes into the ride home I noticed a whine or a zinging type sound when coasting or when I am light on throttle. He said he knows for a facr he had pinion depth correct and backlash. I gave my wife a ride in the car and she coundt tell. I had to point it out to her, she said If I didnt say anything she would have thought it was road noise. But I gotta admitt im really bummed out. I should have kept my car stock.

I am buying some 4.10 gears for my 05 Mustang GT auto. The question is about the brand. I can get the Motives through a supplier for $230 with install kit and all. The FRPP gears are going to run me $330 shipped. I have a trustworthy installer so that isn't a problem. Do you think the Motives would be worth the cheaper price? I've heard they may whine a little for a few thousand miles until they wear smooth on the edges. If that's the case, I could live with that and I would much rather spend $230. Thanks for any opinions!

Gears

Save yourself a lot of grief and get the FRPP gears. Not only get the Ford gears, try and make sure they are the American made FRPP gears. Ford sold some gears under the FRPP label that were made by Motive, these are much more likely to make noise than the American made Ford gears. A word to the wise.

Here's a good price for the G410As, and there are a lot of other ratio options. I don't know about their rep, other than they are a Ford dealership.

4.10 FRPP's in my 07 GT since November 2006 and never a whine out of them. Daily driver with lots of 1/4 mile blasts at our local track, and a supercharger installed 2 months ago - still no issues or whining.

Also did FRPP 4.30's in my '03 Mach 1, FRPP 4.10's in my '93 5.0L T-Bird, and FRPP 3.73's in my '89 5.0L Mustang with absolutely no whining in any of those cars, either. All were down by top-notch installers (3 of the 4 were done at the same shop).
