About Changing Brake Pads ...

Hi Guys,

Looks like my stock pads on my GT are toast after 39,250 miles (not bad). Anyways, I have noticed that my front pads are finished but I still have a substantial amount of pad left in the rear calipers. When I change my front pads, do I NEED to change my rears as well?

If the rear pads are still in good shape, no you do not need to change them.

I did my front's and left the rears alone, although they need to be changed soon.

When I bought my GT the guy I bought it from just did the brakes. I put maybe 30,000 on them before they NEEDED to be changed (the fronts).

I have about 45K on my original front pads and still plenty of meat left

The answer to your question is no, you dont have to do the rear.

Mine had new brakes (I think) when I got my GT. Put about 50-55k on it before I changed the fronts. All depends how you drive the car.

If they look good still, don't worry about them. I replaced all of mine recently but they were pretty close in wear so I figured it would be worthwhile.

Leave the rears as they are. I have 54K on my 96 Cobra and the rear pads are original. Lots of meat left. I have had a lot of track passes too.
