About to order a shift kit....

Help me out! What to buy? B&M has an affordable kit, and suppossibly it shifts hard and fast...but I dunno. Any opinions? And no, I'm not converting to 5spd. Its not an option right now.

I have looked into getting a shift kit. I've heard that the transgo kit is better, little harder shift.

I rode in a 68 mustang with a AOD and a B&M shift kit, it would squak the tires going into 2nd....and shifted very quick and firm.....

I have always had good luck with B and M shiftkits and everyone else I know has nothing but good to say about their products!

my tranny builder used the transgo shift kit. it shifts very firm and will chirp the tires on 1-2, and 2-3 gears during wot.

i can't say for sure. but from what i have read everywhere. its the gradual smooth shifts that wear it out faster and creating more heat. firm shorts shifts create less heat and less contact from each gear to gear shift. heat seems to kill them the most out of everything. i also run a tranny cooler big enough to cool a tranny in a tow vehicle. maybe some of better exp guys will correct me if i'm wrong.

I have read this too. A shift kit with a cooler will help the tranny last much longer because of heat and friction issues. Think about it...the less time the clutches come in contact with sluggish shifts (upgrading with a shift kit or valve body)...the less they will wear.

If I knew what brand was in my '84, I would recommend that one to ya', but I honestly can't say for sure WTF it is - B&M, TransGo, or "other."

Bauman is the kit silverfox recomends, b&m would be my last choice and im sure he would not be far from that.
The bauman kit is simple and adjustable, can be taylored to what you want.
