Are there 2 bolts that have to be taken out up on the top of the transmission like where you can barely see them.

I believe there are and I cannot get to them even with an extension and swivle because there is not enough room to break them loose. And I have no room from the top because I have the bullitt style intake manifold and it is a squeeze.

Any tips on how to get these things out

u need about 2 1/2 feet of extentions and a swivel. the rachet will actually be at the rear of the transmission. thats the only way i was able to get it.

I made the same assumpsion. I had to get a friend with smaller hands than mine to get in there. I tried and just couldn't squeeze in there. You can see them if you get a flashlight and look in the tiny space between the firewall and the intake.

i can get to them with a lot of extension but when I try to put pressure on the bolt it spins the swivle off and then I have to try it again.

It is getting quite frustrating

but are you guys getting these bolts off from underneath the car or through the hood?

Yup, take the x-member out and lower the tail end of the tranny down. Then use long extensions and a swivel. The trans will drop down far enough for you to have a straight shot

Ohhh them 2 bolts from hell on top of trans...
Tomstng and I had good ol' time with them o both of our car...
Do the search. There are several thread related to that bolts...

Seems like its either come out easy, or gonna fight to the death. Mine fought until death(After fighting with it for 2 days, and broke ever swible and 2 extension, I pulled grinder, and grinded it off

i did like 5 searches with different themes and finally came across the threads even yours lol.

I think i am gonna pic up a 13mm swivle socket instead of a universal one and try that.

Do you think I can jack up the engine some by the oil pan without crushing it...maybe only like an inch or so.

I did that to get grinder in. But you should be able to get socket in by just dropping tailshaft down.
there were thread about month ago or so who was in same situation as you are. I can't locate that thread....

The swivel socket would work good... I dont use standard universal joints, I use impact swivels.. they are built alot better and dont kink when your in your situation..

I rounded the last bolt off soo much that it will not come off even now that I have almost a straight shot to it.

I dont think I am going to be able to get a grinder or anything in their either to get it out.

What is a way to get a rounded bolt out?

Always the last damn bolt on everything I do.

my mechanic down the street had like a spiral socket that needed to be pounded on and that finally got the last bolt out...now I have to get new ones from ford because they are so messed up

But now I am having problems getting the transmission off the engine. I have it level with my jack but with the weight of the jack and the tranny it will not slide back. I tried to just get in there and muscle it off but I have had no luck.

So now I am stuck with not being able to take the tranny off so I am taking a break. Someone to help me would be nice.

you dont need a jack.. just crawl under there and put your knees up on the tailshaft and put your hands on the bellhousing and pull the bastard back... also it might not be comming off because your shifter might be hitting the body.. just pull it down and out..

Just dont smash your balls like i did last week when i was doing my clutch..
