my accufab mid-length headers were installed today. i worked from home today, so i haven't seen it yet. i'll see it tomorrow. i'll have more pics and impressions after that.

salient info from the combo related to the header fitment is: 410 stroker, afr 205 heads, AOD, aje k-member 3/4" drop.

impressions from my mechanic tony:

- the driver's side fits perfectly, almost as if they had the car there when they were making them
- the passenger's side is not perfect ... it does not clear somewhere near where the frame and k-member meet, about 2 or 3" into the collector, and it also apparently very close to the bell housing. i'll get pics of it tomorrow
- tony welded 3-bolt flanges on them for ease of assembly and disassembly
- he also welded in O2 bungs
- for the passenger side clearance issue, after welding the flange on, he put it in a press and squeezed the collector to make room around the spot where it hits. this should not introduce a flow restriction because the total area of the opening is essentially unchanged. the flange on the end kept the end from being disfigured.

before the intall, as they came from accufab:

tony also installed the AOD today:

If you dont mind me asking what would make the AOD better than the AODE in our car? Also wont you have to change the computer out to a fox one?

heh, long story

for most 94/95 guys, it is probably not better

for me though, it makes sense ...

you may be familiar with my tranny problems from the manual to 4R70W conversion that went sour. i haven't driven my stang for 6 months because of it

you may have also heard that i have to sell the stang because i agreed to do that when i bought the fairlane in my sig. well, i do not want to lose the 410, so i decided i would pull the 410 and keep it and sell the stang as a roller. then i had the bright idea to put the 410 into the fairlane. then i would have a killer motor in a sweet car, but i don't want a manual shift tranny in the fairlane, and the c6 only has 3 gears, no overdrive, so i decided to get an aod to round out the combo.

now i can finally drive the stang while the fairlane is getting finished

and after the fairlane is ready, i can pull the 410 and aod and put them into the fairlane and sell the stang as a roller.

so you see ... for me it makes sense. it was cheap too: $600 for the tranny built for 550hp and $189 for the converter.

re the computer: i'll just put my manual computer back in. it had no interaction with the T5 except the back up lights.

So does the pass. side header hit on the frame or the k-member? Let me know how they work out once you get the rest of the exhaust on.

Would it be possible to get some pics from underneath the car?

the pass. side actually hits at 2 places ... the bell housing (just brushes it a little), and one of the mounting points for the k-member (about 1/2")

tony ended up cutting the collector and re-welding it at a 5 degree angle

i'll take pics soon and post them

some pics of the clearance problem on the passenger side

you can see where it scraped on the k-member attachment side, and where it had to be dimpled to avoid the tranny ...

i don't think either spot is much of a restriction

Wow, that is a tight fit! I've got a blowproof bellhousing so I think I have even less room in that area.

What motor mounts are you using?

now that i have the kickdown cable hooked up, i got it over to the midas last friday. then i had to order some cats and flanges and stuff for the guy ... they came today.

fyi, i got some PYPES 3" in/out high-flow cats from Summit ... only $62 each

he says he'll probably be done hooking it all up tomorrow

Looks good! So did that quiet it down a good bit? And I'm guessing there's no more exhaust leaks?

no more exhaust leaks, scraping or O2 problems

and the exhaust doesn't smell bad anymore

i think you might have been referring to the yellow things ... those are part of the lift ...

the rusty things are the subframes, not the yellow things
