yeah yeah yeah....i know what you guys are thinking. its gonna look like ass and im a ricer. well what ive been thinking is...why dont people buy the weld on cowl hoods thats just the center cowl part? they are cheaper and it would be just as much work as getting a fiberglass hood to fit and it would be safer because steel hoods dont really come unlatched. the reason im thinking about this is because its cheaper than a whole hood and i have a buddy that fabricates body panels and welds for a nascar shop. it wouldnt take any time at all to do and the hood needs painted anyways. let me know what you guys think.

come to think of it...i could get him to just make a cowl and weld it on. of course i would cut out the existing hood and put the cowl piece in from the underside and weld it in and smooth out all the welds so it looks like one piece.

im just curious....why would it look cheap? i could make it look exactly like one that you buy. im not talking about using 32 gauge tin. im talking about using sheet metal like they use on cup cars. im not worried about the weight, the car is slow anyways

I really don't see why it would look cheap. I have seen the import guys fiberglass those ram-air things onto their hoods, and it looks like a custom hood.

Good quality fiberglass hoods are not that light.

hey im just giving my opinion. When they design hoods im sure they make it so the cowl flows with the hood, and looks "right" on the hood. Sticking on a cowl might make it look out of place, just my opinion.

If YOU can do it then go for it, not everyone has a friend though, making a custom hood might end up costing as much as just buying a new fiberglass.

This is very true. I have tried to take the cheaper route many times, and it was ended up costing me more in the end.
