I've heard that advancing the stock cam 2-4 degrees can help get rid of the lag that 5-0's have in the lower end. Has anybody done this/ does anybody know if it's true? Does it kill the top end or does it still pull to the redline? Thanks for your help guys.

Advancing a cam moves the powerband towards the low end. Yes, it's true and yes it will move the power away from the redline.

From a straight up installation, advancing the cam 4 degrees will move your powerband down by about 200 RPM.

its a good idea i mean better to make your power at a lower rpm then always haing to have the engine screaming.

"You were right, the B cam, advanced 2 degrees on 1.7 RR's was the way to go. 1st of all the idol is mean, sounds much meaner than even bigger cams. I'm kind of getting sick of people always asking me "what's in that thing". 2nd of all low end tq is also good. Mine is a daily driver, can't afford too much bottom end loss. True, it's choppy under 1800rpm, but once after 2500rpm it's alive. I can do 2nd gear starts even on slight inclines... "

Advancing the Cam !!
ya i first had it installed straight up first. But then pulled it all apart and put to 4degrees advance....WOW a world of a differance. all my stang buddys pulled theres apart to and did the same.

12.69 @ 105 mph " !!

Here are a few guys the bumped the cam up!! It works!! and it has always been the way to TUNE the camshaft!! cool??
