I am swapping the auto to manual.

From all i have read from you guys, and the research i have done has left me with two choices. Tremec 3650 and T56. Could you guys give me some advice with some of these questions please?

If i go with a used one with low miles or a remanufactured with a warranty is this i bad idea? The hard part in this is buying all the extra equipment i need to do the swap. Was wondering if you guys had some tips on where to look to where i could get a discount with buying all the additional needed components at the same place. D&D transmissions is the best site i have found so far. A part of me just wants to buy the new Tremec T5 they offer, but with the mods i have now, and the my goals for this car (12 second DD) i don't think that could handle it.

Do any of you know someone that has done this?

Also where would be the best places to look?

Really Sorry i have been asking so many questions on this. Just hard to trust people, and want to get this right. You guys know the best.

Greatly Appreciate all the help fellas.

Regards,

Alexander

Out of curiosity, why do you want a manual tranny?

The only advantage there is to a tranny swap is whether or not you just enjoy the act of shifting.

For as much money as you're going to spend on a swap, you can upgrade your 4R70W auto to out-perform any manual transmission.

The enjoyment of it. I got the car because i was hit by an SUV on the job. Couldn't walk at the time, let alone push in a clutch. Has been the plan the whole time. Plus i don't really feel like i am racing when i go to the strip the few times i do and just floor it. I love the thrill of hitting that perfect power shift. Being able to go through my gears and listen to the amazing sound of my exhaust on how i want to hear it. Got the power to be a street rod, just doesn't feel like it with the auto, compared to my 5.0 i had when i was 16. Just love every aspect of it.

I don't know what mods you've got or plan but the 3650 would probably be fine. Clunky, but fine. A freshening of the synchros might be worthwhile before installation. A T56 is a much better trans but more $$$. Do you really need that 6th gear?

As for all the parts I suggest finding a totaled GT in a yard and using it as a parts car. Of course, things like the pilot bearing, release bearing, clutch etc etc etc should all be sourced new.

Hey Alex! I saw your on Midwest Mustangs - Tulsa Mustang Performance Club also.

As for an online salvage, try MPS Auto Salvage -Mustang salvage, New and Used Mustang parts They should have all the parts you need for a swap.

Good luck with the swap!

I'm not a member of the club, just post on their forum. I've known some of those guys for a couple years now. Pretty cool guys!

They really are. It's RARE to find a mustang shop where we live, and for them to be as cool as they are and straight up honest you can't really beat it in my opinion. Lucky to have that shop
