Hi,
Have 321rwhp and 361rwtk with a 347cu motor built by Paul's Auto in Cincy. Trying to look at my next step :D up the power band... Would like to get to 400rwhp or more. Have a stock block and think that would be a safe point with a good tune. More info ran a 12.9 @ 106.5mph

How to get there ?? That is the question.. what is my bottle neck?? Couple things that I think... Custom cam?? Hone out the Cobra intake??

Anyway here is what I have.

10.1 to 1 Compression
O/R X-pipe (new since dyno)
Custom tuned chip
Cold Air Kit
Under Drive Pullies
Ford 3.73 Gear
Mac Shorty Header
TFS TW Heads ported

Steeda 19 Cam
Cobra Intake ported
Lower also match ported
65mm T/B
75MM MAF
24# injectors
H&S 1.72 Roller Rockers
MSD 6al
Walbro 255 LPH

Well I'll take a shot, I think the first things you need are a 75mm throttle body, 80mm MAF, and 30lb injectors. I guarantee you will pick up some serious ponies just from the TB, Ernan on this board just picked up 20 horse going from a 65-75 on a 302. On a 347 removing that bottleneck will net you even more. You're gonna have to re-birn that custom chip though, but I bet you knew that already.

Hey old man

Good to see you on the site again!

Go for an intake that will flow better to feed that stroker like it needs. Maybe something like the RPMII.

Call up Ed C and talk to him about your combo. Not only will he cut you a cam, he knows a thing or two about what parts will work with your stroker.

I'm with Adam about stepping up to 30's.

A larger tb would be helpful as well.

I agree w/ the MAF and the Injectors but not the TB. Correct me if Im wrong but the opening on a Cobra intake is only 70 MM so stepping up to a 75MM from a 65 really wong gain you to much ??

My son makes 525rwhp with his ported Cobra (331 and vortech). He says it not the problem but I am not so sure, looking at all options.. Yes I should call Ed and probably will..

I like your results as I will be using almost exactly the same combo, except that I've seen on this forum where the ported lower Cobra can flow 250cfm...so that might not be the bottleneck. Someone else ported the throttle opening to 79mm and then used a 75mm TB with great results. The only other are things that I am using that may or may not help are LT's.

P.S. What is the lift of the #19 using 1.72's? With 1.6's its .480 thinking of using that cam or the TFS 1.

Don't know the lift with 1.7RR, I will say that the idle is good with the Steeda # 19, no experience with the TFS.
 
With 1.7's the lift will be .510/.510. To get this you take the lift at cam and multiply it times 1.7 or 1.6 which ever rocker you are trying to figure on.

Example:
with the steeda #19, the lift at cam is .3001 on both intake and exhaust so you take .3001*1.7= .510
 
Holley manifold, 75mm tb, custom cam, matching valve springs for camshaft and 1 3/4" longtubes with a 3" mid pipe. These are the main bottlenecks. Pick where you wanna start first depending on your budget. I'd suggest the manifold and camshaft first and if moneys not tight, get the longtubes. 1 5/8" longtubes may work but ask your cam grinder. I'd suggest fti or hitech motorsports.

You will probably need to step up to a 30-36lb injector after these mods.

I am considering replacing the Cobra intake but my son makes 525rwhp with one and a Vortech and claims that is not the problem.. of course he is pushing air and I am pulling I guess that might make a difference. I am sure about the cam... a custom would help ....
What I am wondering is if I can get there N/A or if I have to use an add-on... It really comes down to money. Should I put almost 1K to 2K more in parts (you could easily sink 1.6K or more into parts) and not make 400rwhp. I'll be pissed at myself fo not getting a vortech/ kenne Bell for 2.5K... to 3K


I guess maybe the question is what is the best way to get to 400rwhp or better.
 
Easiest way is a supercharger. You will also keep the rev's down where as to make 400rwhp with those heads will require near 7000 rpm. I'm hoping to make near 400rwhp with my combo and if you take a look in my sig its similar to yours but with a bigger manifold, tb, camshaft and 1 3/4" longtubes.

If you're trying to make the power n/a the cobra intake is a HUGE restriction as is the other things I mentioned. My preference is n/a and spin it higher, but sounds like a KB blower is perfect for you since you already have the cobra lower. If you want the big power on motor, a tfs r, tfs r box or victor 5.0 intake are your best bets.

My combo i'm hoping for 375+ rwhp. My header collectors and my 2.5" mid pipe are my bottlenecks right now.

I know your boy makes good power with the Cobra intake but as you said, he is forced induction and you ain't, lol.

That bigger KB ...... I call it the Zilla Dilla :rlaugh:

It would be so much fun with that bad boy stroker you now got and like Mr. Mike said ...... you already got the lower needed to bolt the blower on. And with the KB you would have no need to spin it very high. :D

Your stroker + 2200 KB = TORQUE CITY :banana:

You asked earlier in the thread if I was in the path of that big blow .............. I hope not as I'm in the Dallas - Fort Worth area.

Steve, I have never dynoed my car nor have I ran it at the track. I NEED to do both though :D I wanna see how high this cam pulls for so I can figure out an appx shift point. I also wanna see what i gained over my 302.

This is taken from Ed Curtis's feedback section. Nice example:

You may remember I'm running a CHP-347, Twisted Wedge heads, Edelbrock RPM EFI, and the Stage One TFS cam.
I dynoed (after tuning) at 312 rwhp and 348 rwtq.

Then I changed to your cam and went to a bigger exhaust as per your instruction (from 1 5/8 shorty to a 1 3/4 LT). With no other changes, I just dynoed today at 373 rwhp 383 rwtq. A gain of 61 rwhp and 35 rwtq.

I'm hoping to surpass that since I have a bit more manfold than that guy did and most likely a bit more camshaft as well. I'm hoping to see 118-120mph trap speeds. I need a bit more gear though, a 4.10-4.30 is more ideal for me over my current 3.73.

Did you do everything at once the porting and the intake opening enlargement. If not then did you see any improvement when you opened the intake.??
