Which would be best on a 302 soon to be 347 and future kenne bell?

Everybody says AFR but the Trickflow seem just as good, of course none of the mags will EVER compare what I want to buy!

AFR 185 or Twisted Wedge will be great. I would go with the TW's because you are going to put them on a stock bottom. AFR185's would require you to flycut the pistons. Both are great heads and flow close. Both will respond very well to porting. I vote for TW's, just slap them on till the rebuild and then port them while stroking the block.

You dont flycut the piston for AFR 185's I think you have the heads confused.

Depending of the block height (it varies from FORD) and cam most of the time a AFR 185 will require you to enlarge the valve reliefs on a STOCK shortblock, or atleast widen the eyebrow so the valve does not hit on the outside edge.

You mentioned a 347 so I would go with the58cc 185's, you'll have to be careful with rocker and valve cover selection so you can fit it under the KB with out a spacer.

When fully worked people would be amazed at how far a TW head can go...

Are you the owner of Intake Trends??

Go with the 185s if you aren't planning on porting the TW before you put them on. I like my TWs but in your case it may be easier just to go with the 185s.

Get the Twisted Wedges.

The AFR 185's will need some flycutting.

The Twisted Wedge heads can be ported nicely for when you go with the supercharger.

Get a different block. A4/Dart

I would get a more blower friendly combustion chamber (cc) for the heads since you will be going blown.

I have always been a fan of trickflow and Edelbrock. Dependable and great products for the price.
sbftech, how much do you charge for port work on TW's?

Decide whether you want to port the heads or fly cut the pistons. If the former, go with TFS. If the latter, go AFR.

Or, if you're not concerned with the hp you'll give up and you don't want to flycut, go with either the 165s or the TWs. It's a pretty close toss-up stock. I'd go with the TWs since they're cheaper and you'll have more room for porting later.

I'd go with what you are comfortable with doing. I went with bigger valves and bought the Isky cams piston notching tool. THe 2.02" intake valve on my setup would hit the sides of the stock valve reliefs. But, I felt comfortable doing this so I went with the bigger valves. If you don't think you can do that or don't want to take the time. Then just slap on the heads that won't have any clearance issues and be done with it. Any of the heads listed will be great on your motor and even better with the blower. Yes, the 165 will have less HP then the two others. But, only on paper, chances are the loss of HP won't affect the ET's greatly.

I use to be a big AFR fan but I think the TWs will give you more room to grow with, if you decide to have them ported in the future. But you really cant go wrong between the AFR 185s and the TWs.

The key will be if you go with a new shortblock like the 347 you previously mentioned.

David, you've been hanging over on the corral too much..lol Blower combustion chamber??? A 58cc head with a 14cc dish still keeps it low 9's:1, and depending on the chamber shape and design it could be more efficent then the large chamber. You are better off with the smaller chamber and the correct piston in all cases.

The CNC TW 185's are a very nice head out of the box.

I know, I'm a trouble maker over there for sure...

They don't know but I'm wanting a 347, just working out some school money first for a while...and will see after that...

Your advice is much much stronger than mine...

I was saying the "blower friendly" combustion chamber in cc size. Not shape or piston cc's. The piston cc's are from the valve relief "dimples" mainly right? And the others in the flatness or non-flatness in the pistons right?

I didn't know if you seen the part where he was thinking boost...

Trickfrows outperformed AFR in MM&FF's 205 test, by only a few hp but oh well, Im pretty sure I'll go trickflow, with a Performer intake?
