Personally I would go with the T5, it's just more fun, which is what it's all about, there will always be someone faster, so just worry abou thaving fun.

As far as power, someone should chime in and tell you. Through an auto I think the best you can hope for is around 250-270RWHP as opposed to ~300+ througha T5.

T-5, then gears. Heads and a custom cam dialed in to the wrong stuff would just have to be fixed later.

I wouldn't swap to a T5. If I were going to spend all the time, money, and effort to swap to a manual transmission I wouldn't swap one in that has a real good chance of breaking in the future.

I would do the heads for now then save up for a better transmission. Especially if you plan on adding more in the future. But if it was me i would do the heads, and then a stall and shift kit. Then you will love the car.

Maybe that's why we told him not to install those tranny bustin AFR heads.

Just kidding, you make a good point. I was kinda thinking he would find a deal on all the T-5 stuff used for a good price. It wouldn't make sense to wrap up too much cash in a new T-5, when stronger tranny is available.

the AODE to t5 swap was by far the best mod i made to the car. if you arent planning on going much farther than a good h/c/i setup, the t5 will be sufficient. if you are interested, im swapping in a tko500 with the new motor and will have my bellhousing, t5, tri-ax, clutch fork, and fidanza flywheel ready to go for $500. let me know if you are interested.

well i think you would be ok with the cobra t-5....... if you notice, the ones in the cobras don't break as often as the ones in the gt's. I have one out of a 95 cobra in my car... they have a pocket bearing where the imput and the mainshaft meet, it handles the loads better. I have beating on mine for two years now.. I will test it behind the AFR combo soon, but i think it will be fine.

just my .02

one thing everybody is missing is if you do heads/cam now with your auto you will have to spend money on a stall, and when you do the swap later you have money tied up in crap you can't use.

i say do a T5, or t56 if your budget permits.

just remember that the t-56 doesn,t handle as much power it just has the 6th gear. if your car is a weekend car i would go with the tko-500 or 600 i went with the 500 and absolutley love it well worth it! screw automatics

this swap gave me my first manual, 3 months later i bought another manual, in my rubicon! forget the heads for now.

I think you're mistaken, miller. From what I recall, the T56 handles LOTS of power. I've read a few articles on big power cars running them.

I think it depends on what T56 it is, i think there is a regular and one an upgraded one that will handle more power.
