AFR or FTI users - Performer or Performer RPM for FTI combo?

Dont mean to jump on someones thread but who is ed and what is fti cause I am running afr 165 with a ported cobra intake and e-cam but was thinking about getting a custom grind and everyone in here seems to like this ed guy.

Yes I degreed the cam. Had to advance it 4 degrees to get it right. Good luck....

I got my Degree kit in yesterday...it looks a bit confusing but I'm sure I'll figure it out...

So there are two ways to degree the cam...make a solid lifter out of an old hydrolic lifter or replace the two valve springs above the #1 cylinder...? Which is easier...

Also do I need to use an adjustable pushrod?...or can I just use the one's Ed supply's me with to degree the cam...?

you don't need a solid lifter to degree the cam, you don't need a pushrod either unless the heads are on. set the dial indicator on the edge of the lifter with the head off #1 cylinder and do it that way. The only thing you need an adjustable pushrod for is to get the best rocker arm to valve stem contact. the solid lifter is nice for checking valve to piston clearance. It is pretty easy if you do it the .050" method. Do a search for the proper procedure...

I went with the RPM on my FTI combo with the 302, only because I was planning on a 331/347 combo down the road. I did not degree the cam :( But still pulled 303/332 rear wheel untuned, and pulled 108.8mph. LOVED the fti setup. I changed from the 302 based stroker to something a tad bigger :rlaugh: Was talked into "trying" out a cam from the machinist's guy and am happy with the results. If i'm not happy with it in the car, i'll be on the phone to Ed. He was great to deal with in my case.
mike.

Thanks for the follow up. Good to see he still recommends the performer. Thought maybe that was only for 1994-95 cars. Have it on my 92 LX and works great. As far as degreeing the cam, make sure not to use to intake centerline method, do it by the .050" valve tappet lift specs. Like I said before, I had to advance mine 4 degrees. If I installed it at 0, my powerband would have shifted up probably about 400rpm higher, which would have the powerband past the rev limiter. Take your time and do it right the first time. Good luck, you'll be glad when it's done and running :nice:

So would this be the correct way to do it...
