So I'm looking at upgrading my cams, just out of curiosity what would be the best cam to run on a stock tune and without changing springs? I'll eventually change out the springs but just not in the budget currently. Any preferences or anything that anyone could suggest? Thanks in advance

Stock will be best. But you can get by with other cams as long as the lift does not cause coil bind, and the springs can handle the more aggressive profile without floating. Call the cam manufacturer for recommendations.

I'd wait until you can upgrade the springs to get cams. Getting mild cams that dont require spring pretty much negate needing to upgrade the springs at all.

I agree with nightfire. To get cams mild enough to not upgrade the springs isn’t worth it, and if you are going to replace the springs later you will have to be in the heads again, at which point you will prob want a more aggressive cam. Best to wait and do it all at once.

After giving it some thought I changed my mind and agree lol so now here's another question I do have, im looking at the xe270ah from comp, I know this will need a tune but is there any other cams that won't require a tune? I've seen some say yes and some say no but doesn't hurt ask yet again lol

My best advice, which could be wrong (and probably will be corrected if I am) is to figure out what kind of build you want to do. Buy your cams according. Do you need NA cams vs Supercharger cams vs Turbo cams. They might add some hp, but they also change where you are making power in the power band, so you might want to think about changing gears.
Back to the original question, I don’t think they will require a tune to run, but the tune is to optimize your car for the cams you installed.

Get an idea of what you want to do with the car. Turbo build? Supercharger build? N/A build? BELIEVE ME, leave the cams to the very end! Then have Todd Warren custom-spec you cam to give you the most out of your setup

With as many off the shelf designs there are, a custom picked cam for a 5.0 will be a great fit. A custom grind is not likely needed for almost all of our builds. If you want to wait and have the cash, it may be worth the bragging rights. But it’s not like you are building a six cylinder or a rarely modified engine.
Either way, you need all the vehicle info ready and call the cam support line.
The rest of the info from Nightfire is financially sound.
