air bags on a 90 GT?

Hey everyone
im looking at improving the ride on my 90 GT. Im wanting to install air bags on my stang, and I just talked to a tech and there is no special brackets to bolt them up, I would have to use universal and make it work. I wanted to see if anyone has ever installed a set or know how hard it would be to do? any info would help.

the only air bag setup i have heard of on a mustang other than someones ghetto lowrider is a bag in the right rear to stabilize on drag launches.

what is so bad about the ride in your stang? its a 17 year old muscle car, there sure isnt alot you can do to make it any better, and if you do it will handle like poopie.

I am confused. Air bags are std on the 90 Mustang GT.

He means air-bag suspension.


There are a few Mustang Specific kits. I beleive Air-Ride Technologies makes one of them.....very expensive though.

Don't expect it to ride like a caddy though. The Mustang is too light to really have a soft ride

well....everyone said my car sat lower than most mustangs...and it road ruff. So a friend and i pulled out the front springs ...they apparently were lowrider springs. they were a lot shorter than stock. After installing the used factory springs i could tell a difference but after they settled it now rides rough again. My friend who has had a dozen mustang said it road very ruff compare to his to. The struts on it are good as well. I just thought air bags would give it a nice ride.

Welcome to owning a Mustang. I don't want to sound harsh, but did you really expect a soft ride in a sports car? I think the only car I've ever ridden in with a rougher ride was a 1980's Corvette. I suppose you could soften the ride up some by going with factory parts, but if it already had some sort of lowering springs, you're going to sacrifice some handling with the change. What condition are your control arm bushings in as well? If they're polyurethane bushings, those will stiffen up your ride a little since the factory rubber ones have some give to them and absorb some hits, too.

Im not sure on the bushing...probably stock i would say. But the car litteraly jolts my dash when i hit a bump. almost sounds like its going to fall apart. My friends car you could push down on the fender and get it to bounce easy...mine...almost stiff as a rock. Anyway...i may try some things this spring...right now its pretty cold out here.

how do you know your struts are fine? i guarantee that if you change shocks and struts there will be a difference. if his bounces some and yours is solid, it means something is wrong with yours...your car isnt a "rock solid" special edition mustang

My guess is the shocks and struts are blown from riding so low for so long.
