Air/Fuel regulator

My wife has a mustang and we are going to get here a fuel pressure regulator and an under the hood gauge to read it, but i heard that to get the car running right you would have to get a wide band o2 sensor and an air/fuel gauge to dial it in and turn the mixture. If you change fuel pressure doesn't the computer self adjust the air to compesate for more or less fuel. Please help her car fumes are killing me.

What modifications have been made?

Have you pulled the engine codes?
There is a link in my sig if you don't have a scanner.


Yes, the computer will adjust the fuel to meet part throttle/idle AFR needs, but it can only adjust so much; +/- 12.5% seems to be what the A9* computers can do.

Adjusting the fuel pressure alone most likely won't solve the problem.
However, we still don't know anything about the car?

It is a 90 lx with a 302,edlebrock heads, f-303 cam, 36#injectors, long tube headers,mac orh pipe, underdrive pullies, 70mm throttle body,cant remember the mass air flow size and a holley systemax intake on top. The car runs good but the fumes are strong in the vehicle. I no something must be out of wack. what can we do?

The O/R pipe allows a stink. Dumps (if applicable) exacerbate the cockpit stench.
Our noses are not too hot at deciphering stoichiometry.

Even if you got the WB, you'd need a means of changing parameters within the computer (Jason and his site are both very good resources).

First thing to do is pull the codes.

Then look for hardware mismatches, especially the MAF/Injectors.

See what you get for codes.

Let us know what MAF meter you have. Brand and part numbers if you can find them.


As JT stated the O/R pipe will let some fumes out.
But you may as well double check everything now that you're thinking about it.

I'm going to throw in another opinion for the off road pipe. With no cats these 5 ohs can really get a stink going, even without any major mods. It does seem like 24 pounders would have been a better choice too.

In my readings on this and other Mustang boards I have found out that the computer only has so much adapability in it for A/F ratios and those 36 pounders may be way out of it's range without the right MAF.

36# injectors seem like a bit much for this combo. With a regulator you can back off the pressure some.
Your MAF might possibly be dirty or not functioning causing the fual MAPS to be inccorect?
