air intake setup

Hello all, I was wondering what would be the best setup on a stock 97 4v. I took my silencer off the other night, and actually noticed a difference. Eventually I would like to see a P1sc under the hood, but for now what should I get. I saw a bbk intake pipe that looked good, but is it worth it for twice as much? maf?? cold air, or k&n filter only? throttle body? A friend of mine is totally blown, and still has the stock one.
