Air Intake ?????

Does the K&N cold air intake realy make that much of a difference. My stang is pretty much stock. Is it worth the duckets to spend on it? Do I def go with the inside fender mount?? The local parts distr. here only has the one that lays in the engine compartment, they do make the fender mount correct? Just asking. Is there something else I could do that doesn't cost a ton of money.($200.00) or so. I'd like to keep things simple. I dont take mine to the track.
I was told to take it to a Dyno shop and they could tune it better and gain more power without changing parts?? Is that true and is it worth the $$$$ about $150.00?? Let me know folks. Thanks

If it were me, I'd just spend the $50.00 and buy a K&N panel filter to throw in the stock box. You would probably see more of an increase in power by changing the stock 55mm MAF to a 73+mm unit from either C&L or PMAS.

just get on partsamerica.com and order a part number RF-1004 , its the same filter that the K&N kit comes with and go to a hardware store to get some metal strapping to make the elbow on the end that stabilizes it .......cost less than 70 bucks when you are done .....

You'll not gain any power with that or any other available cold air system VS. the stock box with a K&N filter installed. I run the stock box, and it more than meets my engines needs with all the modifications seen in my sig. The stock box will support damn near any availble 302/306 combination N/A. As for the tuner...150 may get you a couple hp in stock form, but nothing your going to "feel" unless the car is now in a poor state of tune.

(Do all of this with sensor next to the TFI module unpluged - I forget what it's called)
Pick up a timing light and find your out where your base timing is (10 degrees is stock) but sometimes they are set improperly from the factory. Then loosen the hold down clamp on the base of the distributor and rotate it clockwise to advance the timing from 10 to 12/13. Take the car out for short drive and listen for detonation. If there is some, back it down to 11/12. If there isn't any detonation move it up to 13/14 and retest-drive the car.

Each time you take the car for drive, retighten the clamp and reinstall the connector (Spout connector?)

Edit: Advancing the timing will give you some more SOTP feeling. Advancing the timing is free if you already have a light... if not, it's a great cheap modification. Save the $150 for your tune this time until you really mod the car and then spend it on Dyno pulls and tuning.

Well it still has the O.E. plugs , cap-rotor, and wires. Seems to run fine, just feels a bit lazy on acell. I was told to bump timing to 14 degrees and that should take care of that. This car only has 20,000 on it. (lucky find) Pretty much bone stock. Thats why I said I want to keep it to simple bolt-on stuff. I appreciate all the info. Keep it coming.

ok with 200 bucks i would get

pulleys-80
cold air intake off ebay-45 with shipping
and the rest replace fuel filter, oil change, cap and rotor, wires, get as much of the tune up stuff u can, make it run good

p.s. holy **** only 16,000 miles

Good mods are a gear swap to something a little more aggressive like a 3.73..really nice change on my old stock motor, acceleration was definately there!! Underdrive pullies are also nice..but I will say the stock alternator pulley should be kept, you see some gain and keeping that pulley will help any possible charging problems. Exhaust upgrades are nice..headers and an H-pipe will give you some HP but more than that make it feel fast with a nice rumble. Timing jump will likely help some 14 too. I would do a general tune-up.

YEA realy, We had to remove the stock Goodyear Eagle's off of it to drive it home from Orlando. The plug wires are still dated 1993. This def. was a lucky find. I'll make ya tear up if I told ya what I paid for it. :D :D :nice:

I got a new fenderwell cai offa ebay for 20.00 shipped.
Like everyone else is sayin youll be just as good w/ the air silencer removed and a K&N.
If ya wanna wake your car up more I second gears.

It's a 5 speed, and it's got grey leather interior. The dern thing still has the o.e speakers. It had the o.e. radio, untill I had a cd player installed. Still got the O.E. radio though.
PONYGRL we need to talk, because remember I have the wheels ya want.
