Air tube on aftermarket H pipes??

Somewhat of a noob here, but while dropping the exhaust on my 88Gt I noticed that the air tube was wedled to the factory H pipe. If i were to replace the H pipe would the vendor supply another air tube to cool off the cats or do i remove mine and reweld?

Also, if for some reason the new cats on the aftermarket H pipe dont need an air tube what the heck do I connect my smog pump and air valves to?

Most aftermarket pipes do come with the air tube hook-up as (most) cats need O2 to work properly. So chances are it will have it.

To answer your question...cut the tube with a hacksaw. Make two cuts and remove about 2-3" of tubing. Then, buy some 3/4" heater hose, and slip it over the ends of the metal pipe and secure it with hose clamps.

I know on 94-95,its a slip fit with a clamp.
But it was always a pain in the ass to disconnect.

I now use the heater hose method.

Tip for removing a stuck air tube:
Lots of WD40 or PB Blaster to soak the joint. The get a suitable drill motor, 1/8" drill bit and a 1/8" Allen wrench. Drill a 1/8" hole all the way through the air pipe about 2" from the joint. Stick the Allen wrench through the hole, and use a pair of ViseGrips or large open end wrench backed up against the Allen wrench. Hammer away on the ViseGrips or the wrench, and the air pipe will come off. Use the Allen wrench and Visegrips or large open end wrench to help hammer it back on. Use a pair of stainless steel sheet metal screws to fill the holes.

Yes it does work, and I have done it. However, it helps if you are skinny or have the car up on a lift. There isn’t much room to swing the hammer when the car is on jackstands.
