Alternator ?

I wanted to know if a 99 v6 mustang alternator would fit in the fox? its a 6g right?

if so I am gonna go gt it tomorrow at the salvage yard, no pull for $84'

would I be able to use the one on the fox alt?

$84 for an alt? That's a litle steep, it's $15 you-pull with a warranty around here, I guess they're proud of it.

You'll have a 3G.

I've had no problems with mine, mhen I did my swap I got a new one, it's a Duralast Gold from AutoZone from a '95 cobra 5.0. It works great on my '73, even with the electric fan, a v-belt pulley, and EFI. And mine bolted in place no problem.

But AutoZone and many others can check it to insure it's good before you bolt it on.

Now, you do you'll have to clearance the accessory bracket on the fox to make room, right. No biggie, just a smal cut. Get at least 4GA wire, and I'd suggest (2) 6-8" strips of 12GA fusible link wire, Ford has done it this way for years with no problems, and the fusible link is easier to find than the 175A mega fuse and holder.

Oh, you'd definately have brighter headlights.

sorry to hi-jacks, but i was told u can get the regular altanator upgraded to a 130 AMP, if its true ill go with this instead of messing with the one ones!

The regular 75 amp alternator? I've got one pushing just over 100 (104 to be exact). I wasn't aware you could get much more out of it.

I personally don't care for the 2G alternators, Ford had a TSB out about a potential fire hazard from the old battery cable connector.

As for the amp upgrade, I looked into that for my old 1G on my '73, but it doesn't up the idle amperage, just the higher RPM amperage, I needed idle amperage too so the 3G was the only way to go for me.

If you find stuff like this, check out the charge-wire connector issue (the connector where the wires connect to the alt). That connection is the weak point in getting amperage out of the alt. The 3G uses a stud instead, and it's a far superior way of doing things.

ok, so the i found out that the 2001-up are 6g alternators...

so I have a question about the pully, will I be able to use the pully of off the fox alt?
