I have just put on a FRPP aluminum d/s on a 99GT and I didnt really notice any difference. The deal is, when I am driving in the neighborhood slowly I can hear like a harmonic howl until I almost stop completely. It is almost like a deep whistle. Anyone had similar experiences?

Aluminum probably transmits rear end noise (gears/bearings) moreso than your old driveshaft. You may also have a bad u-joint (even though just replaced).

Hmmm, I must be the only one who noticed a little top end increase with a Aluminum DS. Most people can tell in F-Bodies too.

The howl is from Transmission or rear end gear whine being carried by the aluminum. Some do it some don't, mine is quiet except for when i am at the top of first. But thats because of the gear ratio.

I am not saying I didnt feel the difference, I just didnt really feel the difference in performance. Maybe a little up top. What i did notice is the total smoothness of the driveline inproved dramatically. It does buck a little when in reverse or in first but nothing major. Just a low howling noise that almost sounds like a jet engine howl from far away, hell I dont know how to exactly desribe the sound except a howl that wasnt there before the d/s was installed.

Ooops I didn't read you had 4.10's, thats why you hear a whine.

Ditto for me, and it's definitely a mild gear whine that seems to be amplified a little by the alum. DS. No biggie.

It's not your gears. I had the exact same sound when I put the DS on. It sounded like a reverberation from the rear of the car near the back glass. This sound wasn't there until immediately after installing the DS. I still have the stock gears also.

For some reason this sound has gone away, not sure why.

Hope this helps.

Is this a problem. Does it mean something is wrong with the rear or is this a normal sound with such low gears?

No two gear sets wear in the exact same some make a slight whine. It's nothing to really worry about. Some of the F-Bodies I put Aluminum D/S in made the same whine with 2.73/3.23 stock ratios.
