Just wondering if there is any real reason to get an aluminum driveshaft on a car as mostly stock as mine? I got mod fever and was thinking about getting one.

you'll gain a very small amount of rwhp and gas mileage. that's it. you are better off spening that money elsewhere.

less vibration which apparently is better on the gears in your transmission making it last longer

Real benefit is

1.) less weight on a rotating piece for better slightly better xfer of power
2.) stronger component for higher RPM launches

It's probably my next mod

it's a good mod if you're gonna swap gears in the future

the stock DS can cause a vibration when you swap to 373s, 410s, 430s etc

and it cuts a few pounds off the car to boot

i'd assume all. is actually weaker. I've heard horror stories...........just invest in a safety loop

i dont think it is weaker. if so all the high HP cars wouldnt run them.

i would recomend a safety loop. i installed mine with the tranny swap.

I have 3.73's and a stock drive shaft. I drive 100 miles one way to work, 5 days a week. After 40k miles of having the 3.73's and stock drive shaft I have blown my 5th gear out. I may need to invest in the AL DS.

More than any job in my town, plus benefits Did I mention I only work 4 days a week and only work 7 of my 10 hour shift... I use the term "work" very loosely. It's more like watch TV and play on :SNSign: I only drive about 800 miles a week. Since I'm driving my V6 (which is going to be my commuter car anyway) it won't be so bad. I've racked up a lot of mileage on the stang though since working there. I went from 38,000 to 73,000 since September.

I've seen frpp aluminum driveshaft selling for $220...maybe on mustang tuning.
Probably be my next mod also since Im got to replace my trans extension housing seal, im going to have exhaust off for lt's and midpipe, and I have 3.73s.

Yeah, like 400,000 pounds. I could pick up my AlumDS with one hand and swing it around. The stock one takes two hands and some muscle. Plus the aluminum is pretty and shiny. The stock one is rusty and dirty. No one will see your shiny driveshaft, but you know it's there, and that's pimp.

My friend has had problems with his, it has needed balancing at least twice. Mine has been trouble free for the most part. It takes awhile to get used to the faster rev up and clutch release. I was clunking and bucking it for the first week I still don't like it in traffic, but for the weight savings alone...that means I can eat more donuts and have the same race weight as before.

Cool, maybe I'll get one on the next paycheck. It may not be the most inspiring mod but if nothing else it will complement other mods down the line. Plus I can add it to my sig. The more mods in your sig the cooler the car.
