I have a 65 Vert that I just put 14 X Mustang rally wheels on with 245/60-14 BFG's, unfortunately to prevent Tire Rub(due to wheel backspacing being 4", advertised as 4 3/4" which would have been perfect) I had to lift the rear end about 2" using Lift Shackle. I don't much care for the Leaf Spring Rear eyes showing below the rear valance but the lift looks awesome. I know there are a lot of hot rodders out there and here is what I am thinking of doing. I'm thinking of removing the Leaf Spring pads from under the axle and welding them on top of the axle then relocating the Leaf Springs on top of the axle and mounting the u-bolts upside down with the spring plates/shock mounts on top of the springs. This will allow me to use the stock springs, hangers and keep the shock length the same and give me about 2 1/4" lift (the diameter of the axle tube). This would be similiar to how they hang axles on light duty / pick-up trunks. Am I crazy or does anyone think it will work
