American Racing torq thrust 2 problem

i have been having trouble with these rims. the 1st set came in, and they all were warped, and could not be installed. now the 2nd set came in, and seemed ok, so they are on the car. at first, they were shaking a lot. so i had them balanced. now its better, i think the back ones are fine, but from 60mph about, i am getting a little vibration in the steering wheel, and it gets worse as speed increases. it is also more noticible when i am going thru a left corner than a right corner, but it does it all the time. i had them balanced a 2nd time, and it made it a little better, but is still doing it. i have been back to the rim store like 3 times. i am running dunlop 9000s. i am probably going to have to have them get a new rim for the front, if they can figure out which one it is. i have heard some other people having this problem with these rims. any suggestions on how to figure out which rim it is?

you are having shaking issues and you ask the question if something's wrong. Of course there's something wrong, your are getting damaged wheels that cant be straight. If I were you I'd return the whole set and get the Konig Beyonds.

I just recently sent back (2) sets of AR rims..not for my 05, but for a couple of my buddies vehicles.One set had a paint run in it or something & the other set had a flat spot in one wheel and would not balance correctly!...Seems they have some quality issues going on!

Did you remove the brake rotor clips (washer looking thing) from the wheel studs? If you look at the original rims the hole for the wheel stud is bigger on the backside than on the front to go over the clips that are used to hold the rotors on during production. Your aftermarket wheels are probably not machined to clear the clips. Remove them, reinstall the wheels, and retest. I've helped several people cure there vibration problem this way

Interesting... I am having the same exact problem. I recently purchased a set of 18x9 Cragar SS wheels with 255/45/18 BFG KDWs and I am having the exact same problem. I get a steering wheel / gas pedal vibration from about 60MPH on up. I have had two different shops balance the wheels and tires a total of 5 times. Every time the vibration comes back in a different way, with different levels of severity. I am going tomorrow to have them road force balanced but I am not confident that this will fix the problem - we'll see. I know how frustrating it is..

check for the clips as I described above.

I'm having the same problem. I'm also beginning to think it's the vehicle. I went thru 3 sets of different wheels from different manufacturer's and still have a wobbling steering wheel. At first I thought I had too wide of a wheel at 9.5 inches. Now I have Kazera 8.5's in the front, with 255X45X18 tires and nothing has changed, I know there balanced well too. very frustrating. :-( Perhaps something in the alignment??

Did any of you have this with the stock wheels?

If yes = prob with car
If no = CHECK THE WHEEL STUD HOLES ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE WHEEL. If they are not a bigger diameter on the rear than on the front I bet the problem is with the rotor clips.

In my case the clips were removed. The stock wheels were ok.

My car came from the dealer with 20's on it so I have never been able to try the stock wheels. The 20's that came on the car had the exact same vibration problem. The first time the dealer tried to balance that set of wheels, they discovered that those clips you are referring to had been left on the rotors (they were mashed on since the aftermarket wheels didn't have the recess in the back of the lug hole). They removed the clips but the car still vibrated at 60MPH+. After almost a year of repeatedly having the wheels and tires balanced, I finally just gave up on that set of wheels and decided to get a new set. I just wrote it off as an out of round wheel or tire or something.

You can imagine my reaction when I put the 18" Cragars on and had the same problem the first time I jumped on the highway. I was so p1ssed!. Now I am back to square one. I started to think it was something other than the wheels since both sets caused the vibration. I guess it's possible that the rotors were warped when they left the retainer clips on when they put the original set of wheels on at the dealer when the car was new but I don't know how to check that. I absolutely love this car but if I can't figure this out soon I will be getting rid of it in the near future. It is extremely frustrating to get in a car with 6K miles on it that feels like it has 106K miles on it any time you get on the highway.

You might be in a good position. Put the 20's back on the vehicle, take it to the dealer, talk them into giving you a loaner or free rental, tell them to give you a call when they have the problem fixed. Let them figure it out.

Check the wheel lug nut torque, newer cars are very finicky. not sure what the proper torque is (probably 100-110 ft-lb torque), ended the vibration on my '02 GT. Also if you feel it is an issue with the wheels swap the fronts and rears around. If the vibration is the exact same then I think that it maybe a problem with the car not the wheels.

guys you need to make sure the tire dealers are installing hub rings with the wheels it fits inside the hub bore on the wheel andmate up with the hub of vehicle this car is very sensitive with that problem

I have had zero trouble with my 17x9 replica bullits. BTW 20's are known for bending all the time,I would never put them on my car.

well i went back to the tire place, and they took the fronts off and put them on the road force machine. you can actually see the tire going up and down, on both fronts, so i guess there is a bump on the rim where the tire is sitting. we tried putting a different tire on one of the rims and the same thing happened. now the dealer is saying that AR told him i need to use some different lug nuts, and this will fix the problem. yeah right, the front rims are bad. so ill try the dumb lug nuts, and then he is just going to have to order another set, this is going to be set # 3! i love the rims but they must be getting stoned while they are making them!

My rims are flush against the hub, I have seen some with the washers still on them, and there is a small gap between the rim and hub. These rims are defective that is the prob, going to get a new set by next week hopefully.

newer car have hubcentric wheels.Not all shops sell or know what they're doing with these rings.You need these rings that center wheel over the hub as opposed to older cars that used the lug nuts to center the wheel.

I know other people that have either TTs or ARE Rebels on their cars and have never had a problem.
