Just a simple question, does frpp makes the 3.90 gears for an 02 stang, I've gone on there site and couldn't find it, I was thinking about those gears as I cant make up my mind on 3.73 or 4.10. Where is a good cheap place to buy gears also ?

Thats pretty cheap, is motive as good as frpp as far as reliability ?? If not I'll just go with 4.10.

motive makes quality stuff, and a lot of guys go with them over frpp because of price OR bc frpp doesnt offer 3.90s. now, there will undoubtedly be someone that says dont get anything other than frpp. its all up to you. if you get frpp, then you get a part made by the manufacturer of the car itself, cant go wrong there. if having that extra security of having frpp is what you need, then i'd ante up the extra cash for them. again, a lot of guys use motive and theres nothing wrong with them. they are a very popular gear outside of just mustangs. but ive never heard any problems from anyone with frpp gears either

just make sure you have a good competent mechanic with experience changing ford 8.8" rear-end gears doing the install. also you may want to look into an install kit with new bearings and stuff depending on how many miles your car has. this is something you want to be done right the first time, or it could give you problems of nightmarish proportions. i was gong to get motive 4.10's or 3.90s until i got a really good deal on a set of frpp 4.10s from a local guy who had them sitting around his shop

try doing a search of motive gears and im sure you'll find a bunch of threads discussing this. good luck whatever you decide

If your not going to do the install yourselve, check with who is. Some people will only do FRPP gears. If your gonna stay NA then go 4.10's unless you engage in HIGH speed runs then you do kinda run outta gear. In which case 3.73's.

no, but motive does, and they are a good company. If you aren't getting turbos or a supercharger in the future, get the 4.10's.

I was just as worried as you are while mine were getting installed, but as soon as i got to drive it, i wondered what the big deal was about.

If this is referring to top speed then not true. If you trap above 122-114 mph in the 1/4 then you will run out of 4th gear at the end of the track. 4.10s will not reduce top speed.I really don't think a NA car should go with 3.90s. But I would go at least 3.90, no 373. Most gear troubles come from improper installation, not the gear manufacturer.

Here's a pretty good deal on FRPP 3.73's! They are great gears and this is a great deal on them (Under $150). The 4.10's are about 30-40 bucks higher! Good luck on whatever you do.

Check these people out. You may have to call for your application. I've used there eliminator gears in 600-1000hp race cars, Motive and FRPP. have not seen a difference yet, not even in street cars. I have heard of Richmond having some type of problems but no experience with them. Pro5- makes 3.90s too, I believe. You will have to make up your mind about what ratio to go with. I never thought twice about the 4.10, except maybe 4.30.

Thanks guys for all the great info, I've done quite a bit of reading on gears and I'm still not sure of the ratio hehe anyways 3.90 seems like a good one of me, too bad frpp doesn't make them.
Does putting motive gears or any gears will void the warranty ?

yeah you can pretty much kiss your drivetrain warranty goodbye, at least for the rear axle. although i have heard that if you let ford service do the install they warranty their work dont take my word on that though. make sure you talk to the shop that will be doing the install before you order. find out if they require an install kit, or what brands they will work with

Word - got both 3.73s and 4.10s...now I only wish we had 4.10s in both. I wouldn't settle for less than 4.10s and not for less than FRPP.
I know some people who know some people who robbed...no wait....those are some different people...
I know some who have put 3.90s in and had the whine...and were told, "Oh that's normal for these gears" - dunno, I just wouldn't want to take that risk myself.

if you have gears installed and they whine, they are not installed correctly. Motive FRPP, PRO50,I haven't heard noise fom any of these. One is not better than the other. I put Motive 4.10 in. never heard noises. Have done FRPP and other no names, no noises. Search some other threads as far as gears, what ever you choose, it is not some uncontrollabe power . With 3.90s the rpm you cruise at is only a couple hundred rpms different from 4.10s.
