Another problem

first off let me start with this


Well i let the car up to full temp today.........for the first time since it has been put back together..........and i have a very bad water leak........


upon further inspection etc........i found it is coming from where the coolant tubes thread down into the lower intake...........IT is cracked (intake that is) ........now here is my question i have over 150$ in port work on that lower....... plus powdercoating........can it be fixed such as drilled out larger and retapped and threaded to fit the coolant tube threads.......



so far that is the only problem i am seeing........but i expect more


someone please give me my options........other than a new intake. i want one but can't really afford it yet

Maybe it can be welded up...take it to a machine shop and see what they say.

Yes you could drill it out and retap it.
The problem is do you know where the crack stops.
We have a spectrograph (spelled wrong) that we use to check for cracks.
What you do is put this powder on the part than look for cracks with a type of black light.
Almost like magnafluxing.
A place that does alum. work like a machine shop might beable to help you.

Damn....That blows... You mentioned awhile back about the coating being in all the threads??? What'd you use for a thread sealer...you sealed it right???
Do you see a crack running down the threads???

If your in a jam send it up...I can weld/repair it...you should be able to get that local fairly easy..That does suck though..Murphys Law.

i used thread tape..........not much either.......the bung that it threads down into is cracked pretty good too........i will take a pic tommorrow.....

this sh** sucks a**

there are some sequential pictures to show where the crack is at.....you can see it easily in the last pic........but i took the others so you could tell where it was at on the intake.....

Well..its a good one....

rout it out, weld it, re-tap...least the pc hasn't broke off....looks like a tit repair...

Just looking at that...it looks like you really buried that fitting...mine sticks up like 3/8" from the intake....did we happen to "reef" that mother in there???

JB WELD dude will fix that up real nice. It's cheap and if you take your time and do it evenly it will dry nice. Just make sure you prep clean the area real good and get all the coolant and oil off of it.

think jb will hold it..........what if i had to pull it off again........don't know if i could get to all the intake bolts to remove it or not..........

andy, "reef", man i don't know what that means.....i would assume muscle it in.....whatever the problem is i am sure i created it......lol....kinda....


anywho, i don't really want to pull it back off....but i guess i may have to. Although that JB weld idea sounds pretty good i don't know it it would hold...

I'm pretty sure it'll hold if you clean it good and let it dry properly. Just try not to get it on the nut in case you have to get it off again but if you get it on there you can crack off the weld.

well JR.........i am in the process of trying the jb weld.......I took my dremel and one of the cutting burrs and kinda created a "trough" or a bevil so to speak for the epoxy to sit in......I hope this will work....i completely cleaned the paint off the thing about 1/2 inch on either side and kinda created a place for the epoxy to settle.......also tried to mush it in the cracks.....etc etc. etc.

You'd be surprised what that stuff will hold...great idea SC!!!

my son dumped his Honda 50 once and cracked the side cover popping out a pc..JB'd it and it lasted and never leaked...that was inside the primary cover..
To install my new VCs i had to open a 1" hole to clear the alternator as it was hitting....i used Aluminum tape on the I.D. to form it...then JB'd inside and out, sanded to form...no leaks...stuff does work the balls...

I would take that heater tube out and try to get a die to chase those threads though if they have any sign if powdercoating on em ???

where could i find a chase that large.......i bought a tap set when some of the others wouldn't do right......i didn't see anything even close to that thread size etc......

set the other day andy before the crack was found........it revs fast nicely and sounds like it'll make some power......it is louder i guess as a result of the shaved heads.......i am excited.

i think it is still leaking.............very very slightly..........howefer i did take it around the block sorta kinda creeping...............lol

it is working splendidly......it was my ect sensor leaking not the crack.....
