There is a little more to it. Depending on how long the motor has been sitting before you started this project, the lifters are going to be partially collapsed or completely collapsed. If it has been sitting for a long time without being run (Fully collapsed)...which is what i assume the case is here, than the push rod should spin with minimal drag. This is zero lash with the lifters completely collapsed. I think the lifter can make up approximately 0.060" when pumped up IIRC...so there is some lee way here. So the push rod could spin very freely as long as there is no up and down movement...the lifter will compensate for that once its pumped up. If the rocker is moving just a little bit then when the lifter pumps up...it will take up that slack...but if the rocker movement is too much for the lifter to compensate for...you're valve events wont be perfect and you will likely have a loud valvetrain!
