Last night was the first time I have been out at the track with the mongoose kit, I was stoked to see what she would run! On my first pass I took it fairly easy, cleaned the tires off- but didnt do a huge burn out. I ran a 13.4 @ 108 with a 2.1 60'. I thought this was pretty damn good, because I was spinning bad coming out of the hole.

On my next pass I did about the same thing, started in 2nd gear shift into 3rd, and roll out of the burn out.... except I couldn't get it into 3rd! Nothing but grinding! I missed it, oh well it happens. I take off quite a bit harder, still spinning, but once I hit 2nd gear it hooks pretty good! I slam it into 3rd and GRIND!!! nothing, so I immediately slam it into 4rth..

On the return road I tried again to put it into 3rd and it just wouldn't let me. On the way home it would finally let me put it in, but it took some force and it makes a horrible grinding noise.

What the hell did I mess up, and how?!

I ended up running a 13.3 @ 110 w/ 2.1 60', shifting from 1,2,4..

Sounds like you blew up the hub that the cyncro ring slides on to shift in and out of 3rd gear. I am not sure the setup of that particular tranny but if it takes alot of force that could be it. Same damn thing happened to my truck with a 6 speed.

I've always thought it was a bad idea to try and shift during a burnout. I do 2nd gear burnouts and I don't see what the point of going into 3rd gear would be.

^Wouldn't the shift fork also affect shifting into 4th?

Yes it would likely. The forks are 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th and 5th-Rev. IF it were to bend slightly it could be sliding into 4th but I'd also think it would more or less be something affecting 3rd exclusively. Either way it sounds like a tearing into the tranny is coming.

It sounds like a syncro problem to me. If it was the fork, 4th gear would feel funny as well. If the fork were bent, it would be difficult to engage 3rd and 4th would engage sooner than you think it should. If everything about 4th feels perfectly fine and normal, then I'd guess you have a syncro problem with 3rd.

Unfortunately, either way the transmission has to be torn down.

Well, everytime you go, you get faster I think, so that's good!! That sucks about your transmission though. Get that fixed asap so you can get back to the track. I see 12's coming next time! 1,2,4 and 13.3? That's pretty damn good!

Could be worse. If it was the 3-4 fork, you'd be going 1-2-5. If it was the 1-2 fork, you'd be going 3-4-5. I've done both at different times. :rlaugh:

My 3-4 fork broke so badly that I couldn't get any gear. Rail fell apart.

I've had an issue with my 3rd synchro for awhile but it is still OK in normal driving. If you are able to force it in try to ease it in after the RPM's drop to idle when shifting to 2nd to 3rd. It may get a little easier as it moves into gear. Either way it probably won't get much better.

not to be a jerk but am I the only one that is disapointed with that time? I was hugely disapointed in myself for running a 14.2 with stock tires while my friends srt-4 stage 2 was running 13.2... I was thinking if I atleast got the moongose kit I could beat him but now im not so sure

I hate SRT-4's....

Anyways, when shifting 1-2-4, a 13.3 is pretty damn good. I lost a ton of boost going into 4rth instead of 3rd. When I was going through the traps I think I only had 5-6 PSI on the boost gauge. Also, for the first time I rolled through the water box. I had never done this in the past, because I use street tires. My buddy told me my tires were really dirty, and I needed to use the water to get them clean (the parking area isnt paved, so you get dirt all over your tires).

This is the first time I have been out to my track since it was redone. They resurfaced the track and I was able to hook pretty well with my street tires. My previous best with everything minus the mongoose kit was 14.5 @ 101.5 spinning like mad!!

Your synchro's is gone. Save up some cash and get that fixed. Never try to shift while doing a burn out unless you have a fat wallet or line lock. Just leave it in second and dont bounce off the rev limiter.

LMAO a stock srt4 wont be running low 13s. Plus he is new to the track with a blower, having 400+hp at the engine will blow the tires off with no effort.
