Any Help Or Tips For Fuel Cell Install On 90 Fox Body Hatch

Hello, I did a bit of searching and I have not had much luck with finding info on installing a fuel cell in my 90 hatch. I was looking to see if there was a direct drop in replacement so I would not have to do any cutting and welding. If so what kind is it. If not what have other people done as in type of tank that best fits in the stock tank location I have no clue on whats proper or not for fuel cell installation. This is all new to me. I have looked for books but didnt find much. So any help if nice.

I was also looking to see if there was a new pickup unit that would allow for different/larger fuel lines in a stock tank. I have really only found stock units.

Op what's your intended usage of car? Is this a drag car? Need more info before suggesting a direction for you.

Sorry, yea that would have been helpful to put that in there. For right now its mainly a street car that I will occasionally take to the strip. Currently its a stock block bored .030 over with h/c/i, supercharger, soon to be megasquirt ecu, and new fuel system. I want to future proof the fuel system because later I want to change the motor for more reliable HP. I have been debating on putting a new k member in but im not quite there just yet.

Im debating the fuel cell over the stock tank for the reason of a different motor later(more HP). Im not sure if that stock tank is worth keeping if i have to put a new pick up unit in it or just go fuel cell.

There is no direct drop in replacement w/o cutting. If you do like every other has, you'll cut a rectangular piece out of the floor for the sump to drop through ( if you're planning on a drag race application). The straps can be cut w/ snips, and sourced out if 1/8" thick aluminum bar. So to answer your question in a word,......no. There is nothing that fits that spare tire well other than the tire that is supposed to go there. Additionally, There is no future in a plastic fuel cell that won't distort, requires that the foam eventually needs replacing, and requires you to lift the trunk/hatch every time you need refilling.

Now a fuel tank on the other hand can be had that is intended to replace the stocker, plumbed w/ an internal high pressure aftermarket pump that'll support big power.

With the fuel cells that are installed under the body, what do most people do for a fill? A latch in the trunk to fill it or is there cells that can utilize the original fuel fill?

SO madmike you are saying that plastic fuel cells are not good because they distort?

Google those/find retailer/purchase/install/done. You don't need a fuel cell.

@RacEoHolic330 has a nice aftermarket tank that fits in the stock location. The aeromotive system is a popular choice.

Glenn's makes a nice replacement tank with a sump setup. I bought an aluminum tank from Behind Bars Race Cars. 14 gallons. Bolts right into the stock location. I personally wouldn't bother with a fuel cell in a street car. My fuel system is 1200hp capable and I can run the tank to 1/4 tank without issues.

Definitely just stick with a stock style sumped tank.
