When u go with aftermarket wheels that are wider, you dont need wheel spacers. I have 18x9" wheels and the back is just about as nice as i want it. I think when u stick with 8" wide wheels then a spacer is needed.
From comments I've seen, you need spacers to clear the exhaust tips, and depending on the tire manufacturer you sometimes need them to clear the quad shocks. My 10.5's clear my quad shocks fine but I did need to space them out to clear the bassni exhaust tips, and to bring the outer edge of the tire even with the uppermost edge of my wheel well.
