I just got my hands on a 87 mustang roller motor.

Ive been read up how u can get a up to 400HP.
I plan to use it 40%street 60%strip. i still want to be able to cruise it on cruise night.
I also plain to use a carb not fuel injection.

Any feedback on making it a 331 vs 347?

i would start with a 347 stroker kit, drop on a set of afr 185 heads, a comp cams roller cam similar to the xe268h cam. add a set of headers with a 1 5/8" primary tube, and top the motor off with an edelbrock dual quad intake and dual 600cfm carbs, or a victor jr intake with a 750 carb. the dual quad intake i think would do you well as both eye candy as well as aiding performance.

Dual 600s? Heck, I think a 750 might be too big, but it has been a while since I was deep into carbs. So wait till some other guys chime in.

I would go with a Funnel over a Vic Jr, since your going to see a little more track time.

Cam sounds about what I would go with, as well as the heads

for 400hp a 750 is about right, though it might be a bit large. i suggested the dual 600's though as eye candy that actually works pretty well. dual 500's would be better though. remember that the edelbrock carbs have an air valve much like the one used on the quadrajet carbs that allows the carb to act as if it was a vacuum secondary carb.

If you drop a set of AFR 165's and 1.7 roller rockers on your stock shortblock, it'll make around 400.

Ford 302 V8 Engine Buildup- Car Craft Magazine

A 347 with bigger AFR's and a single plane will make much more than 400.

302 Roller

Sound like you already have most of the bolt ons!
You might want to try an Eagle 347 Kit w/ 10:1 pistons(w/valve refliefs)
Swap out your eddy carb for a Holley 650 dbl pumper
Go with Twist Flow Stage II or a Comp Cam Magnum roller cam 2500 - 6500 rpm will work really nice w/ that Torker II
Heads...go with AFR 185 or TrickFlow St Heat
You'll hit your goal in no time...wait and see if any one else chimes in there 400hp combo.
Good Luck!

Two carbs are nice, but three carbs are even better.

I say K.I.S.S.,..........go with a 750 dbl pumper on an RPM manifold.

simple, while probably the best way to go, isnt as much fun especially on a race car.
