any T-5 gurus around?

Question about my t5 out of my92 lx.There is an aluminum plug that goes on the outside of the case cover just in front of where the shifter shaft rests,well that plug came out.Im wondering if the shaft is going too far in that hole.There is a pin in that hole that seems to be spring loader,is that pin designed to stop the shaft?it seems to me that the shaft is supposed to go further in past that pin,anyone know for sure?

Only pin I can think of is under the Neutral safety switch..

the pin im referring to is in the case cover about 1/4 inch
further in the hole in the case cover from where the rod that goes through the shift forks enters the case .Not the end where the output shaft is but in the front of the case.The rod at that end has like a notch in it about 1/4 inch in and a flat side right at the end.It seems to me that notch is for that little spring loade pin so once the pin is in the notch it restricts the rod from going too forward or rearward ,and I think the flat spot on the rod is to initally allow the pin to get to the notck then the rod is rotated to so that the pin enters the notch on the rod.but I cant figure out why the shift rod knocked out the little plug,guess it went too far,im thinkin that without the shifter if you move the shift rod in and out it allows it to travel farther than normal.

That;s the nuetral safety switch.

The pin is not spring loaded and does not prevent the shaft from sliding out. The shaft is pushed in as fas as it goes and that's it. When the trans is assembled, it's held in.

After installing the shaft, a pin about 1/2" long is slid into the hole and then you screw the NSS on. No spring.

no im not talking about the NSS the pin im talkin about is where the shift rod enters the case cover in the front,if you looked at the opposite end of the rod that is where the o ring seal is,the NSS switch on my tranny is on the side of the case cover.I havent taken the NSS switch out of the cover.try to picture where the shift rod at the front of the tranny rests in the cover at its point of forward travel, in that hole is where the pin im talkin about is.

yeah youre right,my mistake that is the pin,and since I didnt take out the NSS I think thats the pin im looking at only on the opposite end from the NSS where it enters the bore .sorry for the misunderstanding.do you think thats why im having trouble installing the case cover,maybe the switch and pin should be out while the cover goes on?.

Doesn't really matter if it's in or not. Just make sure the shift rail is pushed as far forward as possible and the pin for the shift block is straight up and down.

Also when you lower the cover down, you can't come straight down. You need to offset it to the passenger side of the trans an inch or two and lower it down. When you are about 1/2" above the trans, then you can line it up correctly and lower it down.
