Anybody ever opened up a speed-cal to see what's inside?
I'm just wondering how difficult it would be to make one, knowing the gear you'll be using and not having to recalibrate for other gear settings..
Do we know what kind of signals are being passed by the speedo?
In other words, is it a digital signal or analog signal?
If analog is it occillating or steady voltage signal?

I have a feeling if I knew these things I could make a speedo recalibrator fairly easily for very little $.

I guess sometime I'll get out in the stang with the trusty voltmeter and see what's going on...

Thanks!

Most people open up the speed cal to set the dip switches. The speedcal is made with a fpga (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) some common components There is a "boot" chip next to the fpga that programs the when power is applied. If you understand me so far, send triblackcobra an message and maybe he'll give you the code for the boot chip.

After you add up all the components (FPGA, boot chip, common parts, circuit board, connector,) and have/have access to a programmer for the boot chip, I'm sure it will cost more than $99 unless your making thousands of them.

correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the signal given off by the VSS in the trans is in pulses. The more pulses per second the higher the speed is. Sounds difficult to modify.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it'll be much easier to snag a used one!
I guess I'll skip doing this one myself.

bjtheman, sent you an email right after the reply, but it seems I'm too late.
