Seems like a cool way to go injected on my 70, without breaking the bank. :nice:

Could use the good injectors too, get good idle quality and still have plenty of fuel up top.

Just curious if anybody has seen / used one and how it drove.

Thanks,
Dave-

I had looked into them a while back. My only complaint is there isnt much resolution. Whereas the Accel DFI has a 16x16 VE table the Megasquirt has only 8x8 or 12x12 if upgraded. It just doesnt allow a lot of precision. For a track car not a huge deal, but for a daily driver type car it wouldnt be my choice. I still wish my DFI setup had a few more cells :D This wont matter on N/A setup, as you will have all the boost cels that you should be able to shift into vacuum cells. Another thing to consider is how computer literate you are. Megasquirt software is a pretty raw kind of program, what I would relate it to is Windows (DFI) versus Linux (MS) both are great in their own ways, but one just isnt "polished" enough for the average joe blo user.

I JUST got a MS and was going to ask the same thing.

Resolution is up on the MS now 12x12. still not 16x16, but then again you can get a built unit for <$300 and customise it to fit your needs... The sof****e is also a bit better now, Megatune has come a long way, though yes maybe not quite that of DFI.

They just had a guy with a LS1 truck put down 1000/1000 at rear wheels with a MS and boost. MS has also added timing support both in firmware and now in MS2 it will be native. Constantly growing userbase is now over 8000.

ANYONE ELSE around here got one??

Well since I have a tweecer, how bad can the MS software be... :D

Was just thinking that for about 300 I'd be into the MS, then some good injectors (like another 400?), and all I have to do is weld the bungs onto the manifold, and machine the holes and make the rails. ... and go to a intank pump (100).

Its gotta be better than a calibrated leak though, dont ya think?

Plus there is the cool factor!

The inevitable "who did your fuel injection?" .... me.
(ya gotta love that) :p

what about 034 efi stuff ? i know alot of forced inducted bmw's use and like the mega squrt stuff but i have not seen any in person and/or riden driven in any just testamonials

Well heck, if those anal retentive yuppy "Bought My Wife" owners like it.... how bad can it be?!?!

MS is not too bad actually. the hard part is you will have NO base tune to start from. At least with twEECer you have a baseline.

That said I think MS allows a freedom of tunning that twEECer cannot due to the interfact with the stock ECU. PLUS it is a TON less sensors to deal with and supports WB o2.

FYI - Innovative now has a "cheap" WB. Controller AND O2 sensor $200.00 How big you going DD?? You gonna need $400 injectors, yippee Kayyaaaa!!

Well to be honest, I dont know... I think about 40-50lbs should work (450-500hp) but I haven't priced the low ohm injectors. I know ours that rate up there are like 300+.

Are the low ohm cheaper?

It'll start as a 355 and then the same manifold will progress onto a 396, with alloy canted valve heads and a perf rpm air gap manifold.
About 10.5:1 depending on how much I shave the pistons and which gasket I run... should be nice and "crisp".

I mean I'll probably get it running on the H-leak that it has now, but I realllllllyyyy want to go injection BUT I will not, Not, NOT sacrifice my shaker hood to do it, so it has to fit in place of the 4bbl.

:nice:

if you want to keep the shaker, you're pretty much stuck with an SD system, I'm sure you figured that out by now ;)

For the price, MS is hard to beat. I'm planning to run one on my coupe in fact, I'll get it up and running with the stock stuff, then put the MS on, then put the big motor in it :D

A lot of the Turbo Escort guys run it. (Believe it or not, there are quite a few of us, just not my gen body) They swear by it. No big deal on not having a tune to start with, DFI and FAST both start out as a blank page. Its just from what I have heard (things may have changed) the way the numbers are input and their meaning are more confusing than the more conventional systems. But hell, its cheap and it obviously works. If I hadnt gotten a screamin deal on my DFI, I would have looked into MS more. Well, plus I cant get over the 12x12 resolution. Just sucks with a 3 bar map sensor. I am unhappy with 16X16 on a 3 bar which is why the scort is a 2 bar maxxed out. Wish they would work on that more. (BTW...what does FAST's table look like for resolution pog?....or Santa:))

From what I have sen MegaTune may have come a long way. The menus and set-up ae pretty straight forward and I am a complete tuning newb. I guess I will see more once I get it in the car and running, but so far with the Megastim plugged in everything is working good.
