anybody heard of running a bit hotter when running rich

Mike, I'm really sorry but that's absolutely not so. In this case you need to use something other than your thumb. Running too rich can cause temps to rise. It's a big problem for us red necks when we ride our dirt bikes at high altitude. The same goes for cars. Overly rich conditions will cause heat because of excess cylinder pressure due to the extra fuel that is either not burning or partially burning.

Not so. Mike is right. That's why we got rid of extremely lean mixtures like cars in the 70s. They produce a large amount of NOx which is a BYPRODUCT of HEAT. Therefore by increasing the a/f ratio from around 17:1 to 14.7:1 has LOWERED NOx emissions and also LOWERED combustion temperatures. The reason WHY it is a higher temperature is because it takes more energy to jump from HC molecual to HC molecual when it is lean because they are farther apart. Also you run hotter at higher altitudes because there is LESS air at high altitudes once again running LEAN.

Would take a considerably beefy relief valve for a 1500-2000 PSI application. I like the idea though.

im not sure how the device works - ive seen plugs marketed that had a means of relieving excess pressure (determined i would guess, by application when purchasing). i figured you smart engineering folks might know how effectively something like that might work.

Ofcourse, that is pretty much the way most if not all cars run...atleast at start up...see the computer finds that the cars temp is below operating temperature, so your computer tells the injectors to provide a slightly richer mixture in the combustion chamber, more gas(richer), means a slightly bigger explosion, which translates into the car getting to operating temperature faster. I would imagine that this rule would apply to everytime your car runs rich, I mean it makes sense.

It has nothing to do with a bigger explosion. The degree of atomization is lower as well as the temperature (which are some of the key factors of vaporization) therefore less able to vaporize. No vaporization no iburn. Gas will not burn in liquid form. That's why they have to increase the a/f ratio.
