Ever since I had installed the Al. driveshaft I can go under the car and it has obviously been rubbing against the e-brake bracket somehow. There is a nice 5 in. "clean" spot on the driveshaft where it rubs...but it something I have never heard...but it is obvious that it is doing it. I'm hoping it is just rubbing under hard acceleration???

Anybody else have this problem?

Never heard of that, my al d/s doesn't rub anywhere. Can you hear it rubbing? Are you sure it not just a mark that was on there before you put it on?

Yeah, I hadn't heard of it (by memory)...or maybe I had

It is definately not a mark that was on there. The driveshaft is dirty and then there is a uniform clean mark to it with some black rubbing on it from the rubber on the bracket.

I'm thinking it is under hard acceleration. Something is making the driveshaft come up more than it should I think...

I can't really feel the rubbing...but I had really never payed attention to it...

Thanks for the response...

Well the driveshaft has been on since late October...and I haven't noticed any ill effects since then???

My car sits just a bit lower than a stock 5.0L...

What would cause the rearend to shoot upwards more under traction than it should. What bushing would that effect...I know a lot of my bushings are shot...

There is a pinion bushing that comes into contact with the rear axle pumpkin. May take a look there, also are your rear shocks toast?

Yeah I have the bushing there...but I do have a rough ride when I hit bumps in the rear...almost like it bottoms out...which could be my driveshaft hitting????

I would be interested in your rear spring rate as well as if the isolators have decided to go south. Do you have added weight to the rear like a battery relocation? Good luck and keep us posted.

I don't have any added weight to the back...just the spare/jack...full interior.

I had a friend try to back my car up today...and he killed the car 3 times before he could move it...lol. But when it would stall...I would hear a clunk underneath the car by the driveshaft area???

I had the exact same thing on my blown '86. A very slight rubbing on my FMS aluminum driveshaft that just kept one spot on the shaft extra clean. I had fresh Koni reds, Eibach pros, and everything was in perfect shape. I never did anything about it, and I drove it that way for 10 years without any trouble.

I always figured that it was just the result of my e-brake cables hanging down a little when the e-brake adjuster got slack. Is your e-brake adjusted to apply rear brakes with only a couple ratchet clicks?

Actually my e-brake really doesn't work. I have to pull it ALL the way up just to get it to stop the car...it really won't even hold the car on a slight incline :nonono:

Mine was doing the same thing and I finally ended up having to sell the driveshaft. (Mine was actually getting scraped) It first started when I put koni red shocks on the rear. I had a lot of adjustment issues with the exhaust and whatnot so I didnt give it a whole lot of attention. THen right after I put those on, I went to pull the ebrake and I felt something snap. I ended up ripping out the spot welds that hold the bracket to the chasis. This made the bracket rest on the driveshaft which made an aweful grinding noise. I did get that fixed and had someone weld the bracket back to the chasis. This cured everything for a little while until I noticed that under hard launches with a passenger or a full tank of gas I would get that same grinding noise just for a few secs. I never could figure out why that was happening but the shocks revealed a bad bushing or worn out part that I never could find. I just sold the driveshaft and put my steel one back on. I actually got more for that scratched up driveshaft than I paid for it. Thank you China! Anyway here are the pics I took along the way. Good Luck.

Thanks for the pics Teal:nice:

I very well could have a similar problem...

I do get a grinding noise when I'm sitting at idle in the backend...which is weird...the driveshaft isn't spinning???

I'm just going to have to take a look...

Anybody else?

Well today I looked underneath the car and the driveshaft rub is worse (covered in black rubber) from the e-brake line hose covering hitting the driveshaft.

Well I looked at it and seen that the cable had come out of the clips where the cable starts to curve and goes to the back drums. It was the passenger side cable that came out...so this gave me a bit more clearance and it will help the problem out but might not cure it...time will tell:shrug:

Oh and the grinding noise I mentioned in a previous post...well it looks like that may have been the driver side muffler rubbing against the side of the underside of the car because the tilt it was at. It was practically against the side of the car so I gave it more space and so far haven't heard any more rattling or grinding:nice:

Hopefully these solutions stay a "solution":)

Thanks for the suggestions and tips...

You might think about replacing your cables as they may have strectched over the years and that may be why it wont hold the car or why it popped out of the holder.

Hopefully, glad the grinding noise turned out to be nothing too serious.
