i posted this in tech also, but figured someone local might have an idea. i put a whole 15 miles on my engine that took 4 weeks of aggrivation to finish. then a head gasket blew, last 2 nights ive been doing that.

tonight im almost done and tightening the nut on my edelbrock intake and the wrench falls down into the oil pan. 1/2" wrench, right through the rag i had covering it.

is there any kind of magnetic divice i can use to get it? if not im done with this car. pulling the motor isint an option at this point. looking for any other resolution that gets this hunk of rat **** moving again.

never tarch

i bought a telescoping magnet and it wouldnt work. i could grab it but never get it on the end, or get good enough contact to fish it up without it falling.

i had a flexing claw type tool i used also. it was going to work, i had good contact but couldnt get the end either to fish it up. the wrench ended up falling off the ledge of the oil pan out of reach now and the claw got hung up and broke.

i may try the magnetic tool again and see if i can get it back up to the ledge, but most likely im just pulling the timing chain cover and going from there.

Just curious here... What "hole" did the wrench fall down into that went all the way into the oil pan from the intake??? I sure as heck don't want to make that same mistake, but I'm having a hard time visualizing it...

Tnx and hope that you can fish it out!!!!
