Anyone have an SVT Contour for a DD?

Looked at a beautiful 2000 SVT Contour today. The only problem with it is there is some slop in the steering. Its not the traditional air in the fluid slack, but something mechanical. Anyone with experience?

Forgot to mention, the play comes in before engageing the steering rack. Is there some sort of rag-joint problem with them?

No doubt, Tried Contour.org forums and cant find anything about it. Still looking for other resources, but hoping that one of the Ford mechs or DD owners know something about it.
