In normal light it's about the color of the front of the doors or back of the front fender...it just has a lot of metal flake in it so the flash really brightens it up. It's tough to beat Tamiya for model paint...they blow Testers out of the water.

I'll have to try the Tamiya products. I haven't been too happy with the Testors rattle cans lately.

As far as spray paints go, they're about the best quality i've ever used. I started using their stuff on lexan RC car bodies and then found they make paints for plastics too. Find a real hobby shop and i'm sure they'll have tons of it. The best part is they have a lot of cool colors and not just the typical red/blue/green/yellow etc crap.

You also can't over look just plain old spray paint in at Walmart. The paint i used on the under side is just Krylon Fuzion semi gloss black. It's made to bond to plastics so i figured it should be good to go. I love Testers as far as bottle paints go, but Tamiya also make bottles...it's just that i already have about 50 bottles of Testers so i haven't needed to try any of theirs yet.

I'm still debating on 2-toning it with black on the top....with the wheels, it'll almost be a clone of your car

Also i noticed i still need to do something about the chrome behind the rims...i think i'll fine detail paint some slotted rotors in there.

I worked on getting some fatter rubber under the back of mine and started on the tail lights, then mocked it all up for a teaser shot..

I may try to tuck the wheels in a little further, we'll see.

Nice job man !!!! That's coming out killer. I can't wait to see it finished. We need a thread for fox specific models. I know there is only so many of us who have the time or whatever, but I'm sure there's quite a few members who do enjoy seeing them.

I received my resin LX bumpers yesterday. They need work, but there are no LX hatch models out there, so I will make do. I attached a crappy pic to give an idea.

Did these come from Russell?

Hey where did you get the rims and the meats from, did you buy them separately?
I just got a '99 Cobra model yesterday and I cant imagine it coming out right without some fat wheels in the back. Not to mention I'd like to change the rims on my '93 if I could.




Tip: The best way I found to do detail paint is to dip the tip of a toothpick in the paint jar and kinda 'glob' it on. I imagine that method would work well for those wheels. I think iIuse more toothpics than paintbrushes.

The tires, i'm not sure what they were meant to go on, i bought 6 boxes of junk/spare parts from a guy and it had a bunch of tires in one of them. They were for smaller rims so i had to carve them out to fit the rims. They're not perfect but you can't tell unless you obsess over it. The rims are from the '70 Shelby GT500 model, which comes with like 3 sets of rims and the torque thrusts were one of them. I originally wanted to use the stock Cobra rims with those fat tires but i lost one of my rims and couldn't find it. I also have a set of skinny old hotrod tires i was gonna make into front runners but we'll see.

I also use toothpics, it just depends on the situation. I also do some acrylic paintings so i have a ton of different brushes. It's also good to note that the Tester brushes all suck ass....go to a hobby store and get some decent paint brushes. I usually find the smallest/pointiest brush i can find, and if it's not small enough i'll take a blade and cut some bristles out of it until there's only 20 bristles...that's usually small enough to do dash gauges with ease.

I also use a lot of super glue for small parts, but be careful because it tends to turn white when it dries so it's best used on parts that'll be painted after they're glued. I also picked up a bunch of various sized medical clamps (the kind people smoke weed with...lol) that i use to hold tiny parts for painting. I don't like painting parts on the tree because you have to cut them out and then paint them again..so i cut them out, sand down the attachment points and glue some pieces (like engine blocks) together, then sand down the seams and then paint.

As a matter of fact they are. How did you know? This is my first time ever using resin. Like I said, the pic is crappy, but the bumpers should clean up nice.

I met him on Automotive Forums .com - Car Chat Forum - Connecting the Auto Enthusiasts where they have a few sub-forums deticated to automotive art and model building.
I have a LX coupe body, bumpers and glass on the way from him.

He is the only person I can think of building these so I figured I'd venture a guess that they came from him, how did you stumble across him?

Not sure about the wheels, but the Notch body, LX bumpers and Taillights are what I am looking for. He actually used some mirrors I had sent him to make reson copies to make the transkit more complete for others.

I talk to him on that forum often and through email...he seems like a really nice guy.
