Anyone know anything about the P51 intake?

Hows it going 4.6 guys. my friends got a 03 GT with your usual minor bolt ons and he's been telling me about this p51 intake he wants to buy. cant really find to much info on it, but from what I have gatherd for the money (close to $1000) it doesnt seem like its worth it at all. Any input

This is what MD had to say:

The gains on the intake were almost unbelievable. There was no loss in horsepower or torque throughout the entire RPM range. Something every intake designer would like to see but rarely it happens. Gain at peak horsepower was 8.8 RWHP and gain at peak torque was 8.5 RWTQ. But the gains under the curve were even more impressive: there was a max gain of 17 RWHP at 5400 RPM and 21 RWTQ at 2400 RPM! Average horsepower climbed from 187 RWHP to 198 RWHP, a 12 RWHP gain. Average torque climbed from 246 RWTQ to 257 RWTQ, an 11 RWTQ gain.

on a bolt on car it is a waste. on a s/c car it is awesome

It depends on his car and his goals. If that is his first and only mod so far then hell no. But if it makes sense for his car and his goals then maybe...

Dont forget you need new fuel rails to use that intake. Thats another 300 bucks for something you otherwise wouldn't need.

As stated before. This intake really makes a difference with a SC'd application.

They're badass. But like said above, will work best with a heavily modded/supercharged engine.

I bought one with fuel rails, lightly used off a guy for $650. I am going to be installing it this weekend.

I will let you guys know what I think.

well lets see hes got a cai, timing adjuster, exhaust, 3.73s and hes already got the nitto drag radials. he also has a cobra r hood which should acomadate. Hes talking about doing cams with it also but like you guys said I really dont see it being worth the money when he probably wont upgrade past that for a while.

Why would you not get it just because it doesn't look good? And why do people get cams just because they sound good?

if he is gunna get cams and gears...tell him if he is gunna get he intake also get LT headers if he doesnt have them already
