Anyone know how to removed rusted rotors? Working on it now, need fast reply

I decided to swap out my break pads when i noticed my rotors warped, so then i decided to also swap out my rotors, well low and behold the stupid rotors are completely rusted. I cant get them off at all. Anyone have any tips? Or maybe im missing something? I removed the caliper as well and the black holder that the caliper connects to, did i miss something?

Try PB Blaster or equivelent. Teh studs sometimes have like these little washer type things on them that snap into place(don't know what they're called). Make sure those are off. If so... Hammer Time. So to speak

Nope, you got it all...you literally just have to yank them off....it may take some nuts...but just yank...they will come off...

Make sure you took of the little retainer pins on the front of the rotors as well...

Yup i got those retainer pins off. I guess ill have to use some real force, because i already did and it wouldn't budge. I cant believe they get this bad. I also used pb blaster

beat the hell out of them...that is what I had to do after they were on there for a while...they will eventually give...

I think I used a hammer on the inner part with a block of wood...so I wouldn't dent the rotor..

I tried really hard and it didnt work, I gave up im going to have ford put them on, or have speedee oil change do it. How much do you think it'll cost in labor?

Honestly, I don't know if Ford will put different ones on than the factory ones...They are probably going to charge you the hourly rate, which is usually around $75/hr.

Seriosuly - i ran into the same problem. You have to use a real big hammer that fit behind the rotors and hit out. I tried not going full tilt on the hitting and i thought it'd never come off. Finally i just hit it like I meant it and it budged, then do it to the other side. The 2nd side took 30 seconds because i knew how hard you have to hit it.

if worse comes to worse take a sawzall (sp?) lol and cut straight down the rotor. it will come off real easy then. garunteed, works every time.

i had the same issue. i used a sledge hammer to beat the f*** out of it. eventually it came off.

i have this problem alot with my grand cherokee take a tourch to them and heat them up and they should fall right off. before you put the new rotors take some brake caliper slide grease and grease up the inside ring of the new rotot this will help stop them rusting to the hub.

All you have to do is cause alot of vibration. The rotors on my 92 talon had been on the car which sat for 4-5 years...they were rusted pretty good. But by beating the tie rod end out, they came loose haha. I tried yanking on them and beating on them before that and thought they were somehow bolted in place....but that vibration did the trick and they came loose after about 1 minute of beating.

Try to find something metal to beat on thats close to the rotor but that wont be damaged. That should bust them loose.

I had this problem on my Contour. I ended up declaring war on the right front rotor and took a sledge to it.

Squirt penetrating oil into the lugs so it soaks behind the rotor and loosens the rust. Then get a BFH and pound away.

Same thing happened to me. Pounded and Pounded with regular hammer after PB Blasting the crap out of them. Eventually went to Home Depot and bought a small mallet/sledgehammer that had some good weight in the head. Took that to the rotors and a couple hits and it popped right off. Just need something with the weight behind it rather than just muscle.

Strike the sides of the rotor hats with a deadblow. No need to use a BFH or strike the breaking surfaces or the backside. Let the PB Blaster soak in for 24 hours first its cake.

I had that happen before on one of my talons.. The only way to get it off was a BFH...

Shoot PB blaster in the lug holes and let it sit. Then hit the rotor hat with a propane torque for a few mins, finally, get a 2x4 or deadblow hammer and whack the crap out of the rotor.


Make sure when you put the new rotors on, you put anti-seize on the backside.
