I was looking into this cam and was was wondering if anyone had experience with it. I am concerned with idle characteristics and of course power. Any info or suggestions besides a custom cam would be appreciated.
Specs:
218/224 @.050
512/512
114 or 112 * lobe separation

114lsa is going to make it idle better and pull more vacuum (being more friendly to the computer) it will make the power band wider and decrease your dynamic compression ratio.

I would and did choose the xe270hr-12 with 112 lsa...the #35-324-8 it is EXCELLENT for an OTS cam..idles loopey but solid at 850-900 and the combination of parts in my sig leaves me with a very agressive runner. The 112 lsa will work better with your combination..the only cam I would suggest above the comp XE line would be a custom..always a great way to go.

How hard was it to chase down the idle and make the car not surge and stall?

Idle was pretty decent..maybe two attempts to correct surging, but as long as you can accept idle around 850-950 then you will have no problems. I do get a bit of warm start surging, but it does calm itself down after about 10-15 seconds..but does not die out. I like the cam, the car seems to like the cam..I would recomend it.

The only issue I had was that during coast down to a stop the engine would stall out. I guess the idle A:F ratio was way too lean. The chip solved that problem.
Now on cold startup I have to coax the engine for about 30 seconds and then it's fine.

About the time I got the chip I kept changing the u-drive pulleys and Donny Walsh said that messes with the voltage which in turn messes with the injectors... he says this is a big part of idle problems with pulleys.
Don did the chip and didn't find much power in it. He had the programmer from Autologic come out and tune it as well. Neither came up with more than 2 hp over where it was when I took it in. They said that indicates the combo works very well together...

Many good reports on both the 112 and 114 lsa..I just don't think you can go wrong with the XE line from comp in respect to OTS cams. I have written an email to 5.0 mag in hopes to see a comparison article on some of the more popular cams on a 302..I was thinking TFS stage1, XE270 among others..who knows maybe they will.
