Anyone running 4 cyl brakes in a 5.0 swap?

I am confronted with a problem and i am tempted to just use 4 cyl brakes for my 5.0 conversion. From what i gather, the brakes for the 4cyl are the same as the pre '87 brakes on the five liters. Is this right. If so, how is the braking with the smaller brakes?

I have an 83 5.0. They came with basically 87-93 4 cylinder brakes stock. They work fine for me. Hauls me down from 110+ mph trap speeds just fine with good pads.

I did my swap 2 years ago, still have the 4cyl breaks, springs and struts. Eventually I plan to upgrade but they have been working fine so far.

By the way, this car is my daily driver...

im sure the brakes are fine, as long as you dont have to do multiple harsh stops.

They work...... Thats it. Don't ask too much of them and you will be fine. If you are going to do a brake upgrade, it may be advisable to do the sn95 brake swap instead.

like i was telling you, they stop fine for me and it's in my daily driver, but if you want to buy my spindles i'm not going to argue with you

There are two sets of 4 cyl brakes, the early 79 and 80 style, that has like 9 in rotors, and the later style, that has the same rotors as the 79 v8 cars.

My 79 has the larger of the two, which were identical to the stock brakes on the 82 straight 6 car I modded. Both work fine.

Strangely, the 80 Capri 255 v8 donor car had some really tiny 4 cyl brakes, the same as my 79 four cyl parts car.

For a track oriented car, the smallest of the 4 cyl brakes would work and save a couple pounds, for a street car, I would suggest at least the 79 style v8 brakes or better.

The stock 4-cyl brakes suck even with a stock 4-cyl behind them - upgrade as soon as you can if it's your daily.

Its not going to be my daily car thats for sure. This car is going to be a street/strip weekend driver/racer. I would have never gone this route if could have found a 5 liter car that wasn't beat to the ground, and that had zero options. Very hard to find a nice notch, let alone with all the other things i wanted.
Anyhow i just wanted to know what everyone thought of the 4 cyl brakes. With all honesty (not just a pipedream) i plan on going low 11's on the car, all motor. This will probably require the bigger brakes eh?
What should i run for springs in the back? I have heard people running 5L springs or 4 cyl springs....why is this so confusing????

Had a thought....

If your running skinnies up front and fatties in the back, would 4 banger brakes up front be ideal so the front would be as likley to lock up, and they would weight less.
